My son is about 2 years old. I feel like we should start potty training him but his dad thinks he is too young. We cant get my son to say when he needs to potty does he need to say those words first before potty training? Whats the age range to start potty train?

My fiance and I work different shifts so its rare that we are home together. My son doesnt speak very clearly and they said it was bc he had alot of ear infections when he was a baby. He is my first so im not sure how to even start. His dad doesnt want to show him how he does #1 to give him visual perspective. Is it easier for him to begin with a potty chair. I would really like to know how to even get him started.

I started at 27 months and he was trained to do #1 in 1 month. My husband and I work full-time with very flexible hours so it's doable as long as you're consistent and you work around the child's schedule. There's a lot of info online on knowing when your child is ready. My son was resistant at first because I was forcing him to go to the potty when I wanted him to not when he wanted.I trained him by keeping him naked in the house, I used the pullups only when we went outside (including at day care), When we went to grandma's house (and at daycare) he went to the potty sporadically throughout the day. He's currently working on doing #2 in the potty (not successful yet), Most people agree that the earlier you potty train the more messes you'll have to clean. My son didn't speak very clear at that age, so we learned his cues that he had to go and we took him to the potty, then he started to go the potty by himself. My husband didn't agree with the potty training until he saw my son pee standing up. He was so happy that our son was copying him. Every child is different so good luck!

I started potty training my twins around a year and a half.... it took a year for daytime success (w/ some accidents). I let my son potty train himself and he was clean and dry through the day and night at the exact same age that his sisters were day trained.
Age range could be 18 months to 3 years.... depending on the kid
