I went to the dentist with the twins,(for myself) and they'd only just cut a tooth , she told me to just use a tiny amount of toothpaste with either a baby toothbrush, or finger brush and gently clean them :) they must have only been 8-9 months but she said as soon as they start coming through get into the habit!

I started when my daughter got her first tooth. Of course you use the training toothpaste until round about 6 but its interesting though because she cant spit yet but we both stand in the bathroom to do it. she developed the interest from watching me and now she reminds me to give her the toothbrush.

Whenever you feel comfortable is the key. When my son was younger, he had the finger toothbrush. It was great for massaging his gums so he would teeth easier. When he started getting teeth in, we looked into toothpaste options. We decided on Oral-B Stages. It is great for us, because it tells us what years for which toothpaste to use, as well as the toothbrushes. It is fluoride free, so easy to swallow.
My son is 3 and still uses these products. But I am pretty sure I didn't start using toothpaste until he was 1 year old. It was just more comfortable for me. So do what makes you and your daughter comfortable!
Good Luck!

I started before the both of my kids got teeth because that helped massage the gums for the teeth that were trying to come out. My oldest is 4 and he can spit but I just dont trust the fluoride tooth paste so I still have him use the Training toothpaste to brush his teeth. I asked the dentist and she said that she recommends that they use it until they are about 5-6 if they get their teeth cleaned routinely then they will get the fluoride then.

Like Joy, I didn't start out with fluoride toothpaste. It's best not to use that until your daughter can spit really well so that she doesn't swallow the fluoride.

I have been brushing her teeth since the first one erupted! So i totally agree with you! I am just a little hessitant to use toothpaste because all of the ones i have seen have said to not swallow and i dont see my little one spitting it out! She would enjoy eating it! lol!

I might have to try and find a flouride free one!

we started around 8 months when she got her first tooth. our child health nurse and everyone else kept reminding us we had to remember to brush it. now shes 13 months and has a mouth ful of teeth

I started using a tooth brush and kids tooth paste when my son got his first few teeth. We use the Orajel Toddler Training tooth paste. It has no fluoride in it so it's safe to swallow. I figured the earlier the better as far as keeping good care of his teeth.
