i have 3 children and they have all slept on their tummies from birth. i have always and still do check on them regulary but i found with my first son he would seep for 5mins stints and then scream so i rolled him over and he slept for 4hours straight my second son slept on his tummy better then his back but my third son wouldnt even lay on his back, i was a tummy sleeper from birth as was my brother and both my parents. they say its safer and its all about sids. but its up to you to choose what to do you are the mummy.

When they roll to their backs themselves. As long as you put them on their backs to sleep, if they roll don't worry or disturb their sleep to put them back on their back

place you child on his/her back for sleep. when they start to roll over then they will be fine with sleeping on there tummy at that point don't rush it. When they roll over and you still don't feel safe with them sleeping on there tummy take all things out of the crib. they only need blanket to sleep with any ways.

I know the doctors and everyone tells you to put your baby on their back to sleep. But if you go and talk to your parents and then their parents it'll be a different story. I talked to lots of different people about this because my oldest slept on his tummy for naps since he came home from the hospital but on his back at night time. My youngest has been sleeping on his tummy since he was born he would never sleep on this back we just kept his head to one side.

As soon as my daughter could hold her head up I let her sleep on her stomach when I was awake and could keep a check on her. At night I always put her on her side, she would sleep better that way. As soon as she could roll over (about 4 months old) no matter how I put her to bed she would roll over on her stomach to sleep.

Its always safest to wait until they can Roll from front to back! I agree with Peita.

I come from a whole generation of tummy sleepers. My mom thought is was really strange for me to put my babies to sleep on their back. My best friend had twin boys who were premature. They were put to sleep on their tummies in the hospital! I've heard of some people putting their babies to sleep on their tummies during the day, for naps, and then on their backs at night, during the more prolonged sleep period.

Most doctors, of course, want you to put your baby to sleep on their backs until they can roll themselves over. Studies have shown there is a lower chance of SIDS when babies are on their backs.

I think when they are rolling front to back and back to front and they are not being swaddled anymore is safest! The more they can do on their own, the less I will worry about tummy sleeping!

Personally I think as long as they have good head control its fine at any age. If your worried about suffocation you can get sensor pads that alarm when the child stops breathing. I always put my son on his back but he would always roll over and he's fine. Really would you like sleeping on your back every night. Maybe swap from tummy to back every other night.
