What's your favorite family oriented activity where you live? What's the least favorite thing about the area you live in? We live in Grand Haven, Michigan. My fav thing about our area is all the lakes... its beautiful!! My least fav thing is that we live in a small town and it can get boring (especially since i've lived in the same town now for 31 years!!) HAHA

I'm another one from Maple Ridge, B.C. I love living here because it's quite rural and we are surrounded by farms as well as mountains and rivers. We spend a lot of time down on the dykes swimming in the river, walking our dog and enjoying how wild and beautiful it is.
I grew up in Toronto and have lived in several big cities around the world and, while I miss things like museums and galleries, my life has moved on from high fashion shops and martini lunches. I'm pretty content with fish and chips and Old Navy.

We live in the small town of Madison County,Virginia. There are mountains and rivers all around. Most of my family is nearby,so we do a lot of visiting.I take the kids to the rivers, and explore the woods. We like to go boating and fishing at Lake Anna, and the kids always have friends over all summer long to get in the pool. And we go to Mtn.Run Lake park a lot to feed the ducks and have fun on the playgrounds.

Hi,

I'm Shannon, from Brisbane Australia. My favourite thing about the area - there are loads of parks within either walking or driving distance, I'm relatively close to the beach which the girls LOVE and there are always various fee activities to take the kids to.

Least favourite - I live in suburbia and I would kill to have some land and space around me. Grew up in a small-ish country town and miss the peace and quiet of rural living.....

We live in Grass Valley, California, also a small town. I love all of the nature around here. There are trails for hiking or walking, rivers, and lakes. I love that we live in a small town because there is less traffic and less crime and we know someone pretty much everywhere we go. My least favorite thing about living here is also that everyone knows everyone so if drama happens in my life, everywhere I go, people know.

Hello Erinn, I live in Canton MI. I have lived here 34 years. We live right by the IKEA in Michigan. Everyone seems to know where that is. What kind of scrapbooking do you do? I live right close to a Hobby Lobby a Michael's and a JoAnn's. A crafters dream.

Hi,
I'm Angie born and raised on a ranch by Sheridan, Wyoming. Now my husband and I are living next to a town about 45 minutes away called Braodus, MT...
My favorite thing is the peacefullness...and seclusion...also the worst thing is the seclusion. Live next to a river...during the winter time we usually don't get out much...weather is very nasty and usually we're snowed in. I love to work on my garden and my yard. We also go camping and fishing a lot...We also love to shoot prairie dogs...and in the fall we usually hunt for mule deer or elk.
My least favorite thing about this place...hmmm...probably loneliness. My closest friend is about 8 miles as the crow flies but 14 miles away in a vehicle. We don't get out much and when we do we go to town for church once a week. So yes I am a hermit. :)

Hello!

I'm a mom of a 1 year and 8 months old daughter. Our familiy lives for now in Lappeenranta, but I was born in Mikkeli. The both of these two towns are in the Eastern Finland, and my country is one of the Scandinavian (in North Europe) countries.

The most excotic thing about my present hometown is that it is really next to Russian border. St. Petersbourg is only 3-6 hours, 250 km (it depends how long it takes to cross the border of EU and Russia) drive from Lappeenranta, almost the same distance than our capital, Helsinki.
We have a beautiful lake area (the Lake Saimaa) and of course clean air with green forests. Our climate is almost similar to Canada.
I love winter time in Lappeenranta, because we usually have snow from November to April. The last three years have sadly been much warmer than normally, and we have had snow only two months during the winter time. That's too bad, because my daughter Emilia and our dog Jade (Novascotian Duck Tolling Retrever), both enjoy playing in the snow. We have a nice house, and a caravan, to be able to travel around the country, to take part to the agility competitions. Next year, we are about to move nearer our capital, to a small town called Hyvinkää, about 30 minutes drive from Helsinki. But who knows...

The thing I don't like my hometown, Lappeenranta, is that the Russian border too near to us. There are many people who wants to come across the border no matter what, and many rich Russians have bought the best houses and propeties in our area without Finnish nationality. That makes me really angry! We faught against (during the 2nd World War) the Russians defending our homes and our land, and now they just come and buy our land, just like that! That's not fair!

I love the eastern Finland, and I'd hate to move away to the "busy" part of the Finland. I've travelled a lot and I've visited many coutries in Europe, some places in Asia (Turkey) and some towns and cities in the USA. I just have to say, that there is no place like home (where ever it is). ;)

Hi I am from Bay City MI. We are on the Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron. We are a smaller town BUT WE KNOW HOW TO DO SUMMER FESTIVAL'S. From Early to mid June to about the last week in August we have some kind of festival. Our 4 of JUly festival is a 3 day event and is the largest on south on Detroit. It is all funded be donations except for some Police Patrols. The one thing I think is lacking Bay City is decent Restaurants. We have a lot of them but most are boring and chains. Very few cultural restaurants

We live in Dallas, OREGON! Pretty small town about 15 miles west of Salem. What I love is that we are less than an hour from the beach to the west and the mountains to the east so there is always somewhere beautiful to go. We could play in the snow and kick off our shoes and play in the ocean all in the same day!!!

What I don't like? hhhmm.... not a lot here for my kiddo's to do unless we drive somewhere and even then, things are spendy. Wish our town had more to offer for 10-15 year olds!

Find a nice plate somewhere that looks like it would be part of a set but that you won't miss if it doesn't work.

Take a plate of cookies or other baked good to the neighbor. Ask them to fill it up and call you when they are taking it to the next neighbor and you can all have coffee together.

When you arrive with the cookies, ask if they have time to eat a cookie with you? Don't just leave it. Introduce yourself and make friends.

Of course if they don't have time you may leave it but ask that they return the plate, with or without their product on it. heh heh.

We did this in Omaha and it seems to break the ice well.

We live in Cypress Texas (right outside of Houston). I love the weather - year round you never need a jacket and even in the middle of summer it's great. We get lot's of pool time. I'm from the northeast and I am thrilled to be out of the cold weather! The thing I like least about Houston is the traffic - horrrible!

We live near San Jose, in Silicon Valley, California. We love the weather (it's usually pretty moderate, rarely ever too cold or too hot), the beauty of the area and the fact that you can drive an hour and be at the Pacific Ocean or drive 3 hours in the other direction and be in the mountains (the Sierras, Lake Tahoe). I love that we'll be raising our son in a really culturally diverse envrionment. The only downside? It's incredibly expensive to live here!! The housing prices, while they've come down considerably, are still pretty ridiculous.

Hi, we live in a rural area, but only 20 minutes to a big shopping area and 45 minutes from Brisbane city (Australia). We have fabulous beaches only a 10 minute drive from our house. We have only been here for 4 weeks - we moved from Brisbane where we were 5 minutes walk from 4 great kids parks. We have heaps of room outside and lots of countryside for the kids to explore, and in the weekends can go to the beach easily. All our friends are in Brisbane and our families live either in NZ or Israel, so a VERY long way from us. We have joined a playgroup and meet once a week for craft and fun activities, also a nice way to meet other mums. Both our kids are little (3.5 and 2.5) so it is important for them to have friends their age. We miss having neighbours close as we had fantastic neighbours before moving. Have to say, waking up to the sound of birds chirping and no traffic noise is worth it all!!!

I live in Adrian Michigan, very lower South East Michigan. I have lived here all of my life and the best thing is that Adrian has enough shopping to find what you need, but it doesn't get crazy like some bigger city shopping malls. We also have tons of resturants so we will never go hungry. Plus we are less then an hours drive from 3 major cities so we can easily have our fill of fun. What I dont like about living here, is that you really need to think hard and plan ahead to keep activities new and exciting. Lots of things to do on weekends, but not so much during the week. But I love it here, just wish someone would buy my house so we could buy a bigger one.

Good question!

I would have to say my favorite thing is that the skidoo trail is right by my house (My hubby and I are into snowmobiling, so it's great)! My least favorite thing would be that there is nothing else to do! The closest mall is 30-45 minutes away. There is a park and a school right down the road, which is great! We'll stay for awhile so our daughter can get to know her family and our friends (who are like family) and then we just might pack up and make a move West (which is something my hubby would love to do!)
