Still having constipation problems. Want to switch her formula to see if that helps. Dont want to give her plain water, karo syrup, or prunes every day. If Im on WIC and only get Similac can I get a note from the doctor so they cover another brand?

Similac was very constipating for my daughter! We changed to Enfamil with Lipil (or you can get the store brand, it's the same but cheaper) and that worked great! I've heard soy is good for that as well! A little bit of water everyday also helps, and I found that it also helped with gas! As far as your WIC standards, I'm not sure how that all works, but I'm sure they'll help you someway! Good Luck!

My daughter had the worse trouble with formula and I took her to the doctor. The doctor told me to place her on Nutramigen, it's a really expensive formula but with the doctors note the WIC office did cover at least 8 cans a month for me. I rarely had to buy my own. So yes WIC will cover with a note and this brand did help with the constipation problems.

i was a hands on mom for my 4 kids despite of the fact that i am a working mom. The pedias of my kids, always advice to give the baby an ounce or two of juice or water, at age 3 months or so, sorry i am not so sure for that was long time ago. But i do surely know that not one of my babies suffered constipation or diarhhea. I suggest that you consult your baby's pedia for what is best for your kid, that is what i usually do before. My 4 kids has different formula then.

My son had no choice but to do soy..the constipation was really bad and he screamed in pain at nite..I gave him about an ounce or two of prune juice every day and it really helped with equal parts water..he outgrew it at about 6mos. Good luck

I have been doing that, barely ever give her cereal. :( I did call my clinics nurses line and she said I can give her 1-2 ounces of water or juice a day and it wont hurt her any.

My daughter had severe constipation too, not exactly sure what ages yours is but my pediatrician suggested giving her foods that do not promote constipation. More fruits and veggies and less cereals.

Quoting Heather:

My daughters were both on Similac Sensitive because of constipation. It's in an orange can and WIC will cover it. It seemed to help a lot. It's best to talk with your pediatrician because sometimes switching too much can make things worse as well and if there are any problems that could be causing it they can find out. It can take up to two weeks before you start noticing a difference with any formula that you try. Until then you can use prune or pear juice to help. It's best if you water them down.

Thats the kind Ive been using for months. :(

I am on WIC and my son uses Enfamil Gentlease which works great! But I do know you can get a note from your doctor if you and the doctor think your baby needs something else!

Yes you can, but u have to check with WIC to see what other brand they are willing to cover.. I had my son on Enfimil Prosobee a soy base.. They covered it for 6 months then i had to try and find one that would work with his problems... ( that they would also cover) You can call and speak with your doctor and the WIC office and work it out.. They will cove most others but you may not get as much i know i got 3 cans less being on a soy based one.. The thing I have to do with my daughter is to put Miralax in one bottle every 2 days to help keep her regular... Hope this is helpful... Best Wishes and Take Care

I was going to suggest Similac in the blue can, but sounds like maybe that's what you already have.. My daughter still gets prunes everyday at 21 mo.(chopped instead of baby food), because of constipation issues. Unfortunately, some kids may still need that too.
