Which Spelling for Baby's Name?

I like either Rowan or Rowyn.

Rowan because I'm an Anne McCaffrey fan, but Rowyn is a gorgeous alternative!

I think Rowyn is more for a girl. The a and e seems more the way a boy would spell it and the i could be either way.

Rowen or Rowyn seems more girly to me. Very cute name though! I wouldn't worry about trends. Just name your baby girl whatever you think is best.!

Speaking as a teacher, I say go with the spelling that makes phonetic sense. I assume you are going to pronounce it as ROW en (rhyming with crow, not cow). If so, then it should be spelled Rowen. I think it's a lovely name just as it is and there's no reason to try to make it girly etc by sticking in silly y's where they don't belong. Now, if you are pronouncing it Row IN then definitely put in the i instead of an e or a! It will make it so much easier for her through out her life if her name is spelled the way it sounds, rather than having to spell it for everyone and have people mispronounce it anyways. We had a darling little girl in school this year whose name was pronounced as though it began with a "W" but it was spelled with a "Y" instead. She had a very hard time learning to differentiate between the two letters! I imagine your last name is hard for people to pronounce/spell, so personally I would recommend trying to make her first name as easy as possible for everyone concerned. Rowan or Rowyn would be more feminine version of the name. It boils down to exactly how you want it pronounced. Seeing as my last name is Cowan, I know the different pronunciations people can take on the name. We pround is COW-an, but have had it pronounced CO-wan. Think about that part then go with what you feel.

I like Rowan or Rowyn personally. Both variations are more feminine. We used a different spelling for our youngest. Her name is Kamdyn....as in Kamden or Camden. I do find myself spelling it out quite frequently, but I think that I would have to even if I had given her name a more common spelling, since her name is not popular. We have been very pleased with our choice of spelling for the last 13+ months and don't regret our decision to opt for a unique name and spelling! Try out each spelling for a day and see which one sticks the most. Write her name out, spell it out loud, and write down/print out the spelling in big letters and put the "sign" in her nursery. This might make it easier to choose which spelling fits your family! Good luck on your upcoming delivery!!!

I would go with either Rowan or Rowen. Frankly, I've only ever seen the former spelling. Your last name is already quite unique, so it's probably better to stick with a simple, common spelling for her first name.

I DO know what you mean about the y-trend & didn't really think about that!! I was thinking about more of a welsh/celtic spelling with the y, but you are right....I don't want it to be too trendy.

For a girl, I like Rowyn. It's more girly, I think, I have a little girl named Devan, and most people spelled it Devin, with an i, but to make it a little more girly, I went with the a. DevAn. Good luck with the new bundle of joy!
