Wow. My first was 20hrs (vantose, and forcips)second was 7.5 hours, 3rd was 14 hours and my last was 6.5 hours. The fourth was the best, easiest and quickest due to a homebirth the best experience ever.

8 hrs with my 1st, 2 1/2 hrs with my second and my third was 45mins, that was from having no pain but my waters went until i had deliverd the plasenta. He ended up being born in an ambulance in the front garden. we then went straight back inside our home no need to go to the hospital it was great.

with Samara my labor was 72hrs. long I went to the hospital the 2nd morning i was in labor they said I had a urinary tract infection that wasn't true plus they monitored my contractions...long story short samara could have been in better shape then she was and she wouldn't have been born almost 4 months early at 1lb. 15ounces it was the worst labor I have been in.

I think it does help to define what is meant by "labor". A lot of women here who has very short labors were probably already "in labor" but not "in pain" and therefore didn't notice. Contractions do not always cause pain, and, non-labor contractions 9Braxton-Hicks) can be very painful but won't cause a baby to be born. for myself, I started pre-labor (prodromal) Friday evening, and had 12 hours of very painful cotractions- some were "labor" quality, and some were ineffective. Because labor wasn't progressing, my doc okayed me taking a prn for anxiety (one small dose) and i went to bed, since I hadn't slept in quite a while. This was all while I was home, as I had planned a homebirth. By Sunday morning, I was still having some contrations, but they were spaced too far apart, and, thankfully, not that painful to deal with. I walked, and walked, and walked, went to the movies. My water broke Sunday evening after coming home from the movies. I was able to sleep between contractions Sunday night. But, still, no increase in frequency by MOnday morning. Again, more walking, etc. I had made an agreement with my midwife and doc about when to go to the hospital, so near midnight Monday night, I admitted myself. I was given a half dose of cytotec (I knew the dangers, but, I agreed to half a dose- the doc wanted to give me something to increase the contractions, but I refused to be stuck in bed, I wanted to walk and I wanted the minimum medication possible) at 1am. My daughter was born at 6:28pm Tuesday. I had no medications other than antibiotics (becuase I had refused the GBS screening during pregnancy and my water had been leaking since Sunday) until the very end because I was "stuck" at 9.5 cm but had such a strong urge to push I could not stop. I guess if I counted the hours, my "prodromal" and early labor was about 77 hours, active labor about 18 hours, and pushing took 28 minutes. But most of the "pain" was int he first 12 hours, and the pushing part. (I vaguely remember saying I was hurting tuesday, but I can't actually remember pain except during pushing.)

Started labour on the thursday night didnt have her till the sunday which they turned around and asked "would you like us to break your waters now" what a stupid question after 3 days!

Quoting SUZAN:

I went into labor the end of Aug (having pains all the time) the Drs kept telling me it was the braxton hicks and wouldnt do anything, said when the babys ready it will come. Well I waited and waited while the baby played kick ball inside and by the end of Sept I finally went into the hospital when the pains were 4 mins apart, well needless to say I was only 2 centimeters dialated, I then waited another 14 hrs and they figured out that I dont dialate so decided to do a C Section. I waited almost a month so why not???? When the baby was born he was 21 1/2 long and 10 lbs. He turned over in the nursery the day he was born and kept doing it which baffled the nurses. They then figured out that this kid was 1 month old now...He was also born with a cone head since he was in the canal for 1 month more then he was supposed to be....That finally went away. Thank God I had him in Sept and could put hats on him for months.

OMG, That is one incredible story. Glad everything worked out so well. I'm sure he has a beautiful head.

You kind of have to wonder if the doctor's got their degrees out of a weetbix box don't you!!

My sister was the same {well not the same only a few days.} but they "Doctors" kept telling her that she wasn't in labour. Her third child by the way so anyone would assume by now, she would know what labour was and what it "wasn't " The day she had Aaron even her midwife was saying it wasn't labour. Guess what it must have been, because she ended up giving birth at home with the help of her two best friends who happen to be there visiting, and her husband. Me thinks they "Doc's Midwife" need to go back and read their big medical books again. lol

I walked so much with my first one. I've heard alot of women swear by that. And the nurses at the hospital even make you walk. But it still took me to long to have him. I can't imagine if I hadn't walked how long it may have taken. So ladies like Eva said walk, walk, walk......

I went in to be induced on 5/9/07 at 8:30am. but he wasnt actually born til 5/11/07 apoximatly 4:30pm. yup thats almost 3 days of labor. The doctor finally came in and broke my water around noonish on the third day but once he did things moved along pretty quick. I dont think I'll be doing that ever again. Dont get me wrong I love being a mommy and I wouldnt trade Jimi for the world but being pregnant and giving birth was the worse experience of my life.

Wow! That is a long time. I've know people to be in labor for as long as 3 days! My first daughter(now 15yrs old) had me in labor for 15 hrs. With my second daughter who is now 19mos old (big gap), I was in labor only approx. 4 hrs! What a difference! I think that your lifestyle in a sense, determines how your labor will be, along with the number of pregnancies you have as well. Even thought it was approx, 14 yrs before having my second child, I was in labor for a short period of time. The doctor told me that your body doesn't forget about the first birth and it adjusts to your additional births no matter the length in between them. I think my labor went so quick because I'm a nurse and is on my feet all day, so I walked a lot! If you have another baby, hopefully labor will be much shorter!(smile)

Thats way worse than I had it! 26 hours of labor really got the best of me. And it was full blown hard labor from the beginning. He is now 18 years old and I remember it like it was yesterday. Wish you all the best of luck in having more babies! My second birth only took about 11 hours which was a blessing to me.

All four labors were super quick. The longest I had was four hours, the shortest was 90 minutes. They hurt, so I feel awful for moms who are in labor for long periods of time.

Mine was 15hrs 1st baby. Could have been only 10hrs but she wasn't coming down inthe right way!! So i had to have an epidural at 10cm to stop me from pushing!! That was awful, they where telling me to stop pushing but as you all know was very diffcult to do when your body is telling you to do it!!!! I had loads of doc's waiting outside my room, some ready to do forceps and the others ready to take me away for a c-section. In the end i did it all by myself!! So didn't think that was too bad for my 1st. I think i laboured a lot while i was sleeping as i woke up at 02:30 on the sat morning and she was born 17:27 that night. I was due to be induced on that sunday, but think she heard them and thought no way, i will come out when i say so!!!
