I had a premature baby at 33 weeks. She is now 5 months but her corrected age would be around 3 months. She always woke up twice at night for feeds, but now she is waking up sometimes 1-2 times every hour or so. She does not want to eat, I just rock her and she will go back to sleep. Does anyone have any ideas why this would be happening. I am a first time mom and so confused and tired!! She is not a good sleeper in the day either.

Her schedule of "normal night wakings" will probably change many times over the next year or so. At this age, there really is no such thing :) Yes, books are too confusing and just make new moms freaked out and paranoid. Trust your instincts. If she needs comfort, rock her. If she's hungry, feed her. In the long run, secure babies are happier babies. Don't listen to what any book says she should do. You are her Mom and you know her best. It sounds like you are doing a great job.

Also the way way kids today are SO rude and disrespectful, even to ADULTS makes me so disgusted. Kids back in the day were so much more respectful.

i know!!! I hate all the parenting books... I am glad that my mother was a great parenting coach... my sister read too many parenting books and refused to listen to my mother... because she was afraid of what the books told her would happen. She has 2 very badly behaved children that pick their own bed time (usually around 2am) . I don't know if it because the way she raised her kids or what, but i have vowed never to read a parenting book... the old fashioned way works for me.

Ok that's encouraging! I'm worried because I always rock her to sleep and put her down and sneak out. During the day she will wake up and I will go back a rock her to sleep during her sleep cycles. (Such a bad habit I've created) but she has such a hard time sleeping, she fights it so much it was the only way I could get her to sleep. Now I'm wondering if she wants this at night too, but she has never done it before.

either she'll go back to her normal night wakings or perhaps she will be not waking at all... my oldest daughter (now 9) never woke up during the night since day one. my youngest stopped waking at 1 month, so i was lucky.... but when they were either sick or teething they would wake 1-2 times a night, then when i gave them tylenol/motrin, they wouldn't wake until morning... and that was their schedule.

ear infection or teething? my daughter started teething at 3months.... when my kids started teething, ior just waking up at unusual times, i would give them infant tylenol or motrin the next night and it would help them sleep through the night
