Put a pillow up under his crib mattress. Not a super fluffy one, just enough to give him that elevation. Or a folded towel. I had to do that constantly with both of my daughters because they were always congested. Like everyone else said cool mist humidifier.

If you are this nervous about him rolling over what are you going to be like when he is 16 and starts driving! LOL, he is fine, if you are worried about him sleeping on his belly just make sure there are no toys, blankets, or pillows in his crib. As far as stuffy goes it could just be allergies, or he could be teething too. Just relax it is nothing serious. Be grateful he is healthy and has no serious problems.

they aren't supposed to sleep on their tummy UNTIL they can roll over by their self. Once they can roll over on their own then it's ok. Just make sure there aren't any stuffed animals, pillows, blankets, etc that he could suffocate on.

I had that same thing happen, where no matter what I did, he would roll over. I finally was too exhausted one night to get up and check on him every hour like I had been and you know what happened? We BOTH slept through the night for the first time! lol I think its really horrible that they scare you silly about the whole sleeping on their tummy thing now that I can look back at it. GL and do what feels right rather than what "they" tell you to and it will rarely be wrong. If your really worried about the runny nose, go back to the doctor and say "hey, this isn't right, its been going on for too long" and push them to figure out whats wrong. Your the mommy, you know your child far better than a doctor that has spent less than an hour with him.

for the congestiion, steam up the bathroom and then bring him in there and sit with him for 5 minnutes or so, also put a humidifier or vaporiser in his room, and squirting breastmilk (if you have it) up his nostril might help as well.

for the rolling over there is really nothing you can do except roll him back over until he learns to do it himself. my son started rolling over 1 way at 2 months and would get mad too. i wa\s told not to worry because if he can roll over he can probably lift his head up enough to not suffocate

If he's in a crib to sleep, put him on his back. If he rolls over, that's fine. Make sure there isn't any thing in the crib other than a blanket if he uses one. That will reduce the risk of him suffocating. As for the congestion, try a cool-mist humidifier and put one or two folded up towels under the head of his mattress. Lay him on the elevated part of the mattress rather than the flat part. This will position him so that as the humidifier loosens the congestion, it will naturally flow down rather than pooling in his chest. I would also suggest a warm bath before bed. At four months old, he isn't old enough for most of the over the counter medications, so you have to be creative. I have taught daycare for almost 10 years, have been certified repeatedly in first-aid and CPR, and have a 3-yr old myself. I have done all of these techniques with him, and he is happy and healthy. As for the SIDS, babies who are put on their tummies to go to sleep have a higher risk of SIDS because they can't move their heads from one side to the other, and will end up with their face in the mattress. If your son is rolling over, then he should be able to move his head. He is fine. Your pediatrician should be able to confirm this for your own peace of mind. I hope this helps you in you endeavors. :)

Hiya - My daughter rolled onto her tummy every time I put her in her crib from birth! I wrapped her tight and put her in her wedge thing but still she wriggled onto her tummy!

If he can hold his head up then he should be ok but for peace of mind I would use a Safe T Sleep and a good monitor like the Angelcare sound and movement which will tell you if he isnt breathing.

For his congestion I recommend a Vicks Vaporisor, in New Zealand they sell them at the chemist and cost around $90, you add water and vicks oil and plug it in at night or at nap times. The water and oil heat up and are amazing for croup and congestion!

Good luck xxx

My son slept on his tummy from about the time he started rolling over. I can't tell you what to do but my son is now almost 3, so sleeping on his tummy didnt seem to hurt.

You can try to swaddle him if he will let you to keep him on his back. As for the congestion, we use a cool mist humidifier in our daughter's room to help with the congestion and put Vicks Vapor Rub on her feet under her nightie. Since your boy is still young, try adding an elevated sleep positioner to help it drain out of him easier.

If he's rolling over and holding his head up on his own then the risk for suffocation goes down quite a bit . The urge to breathe and the ability to move so that they can breathe is what makes this time a little safer. They want you to put newborns on their backs because they can't move their head if a stuff animal (which should never be in the crib at nite) or blanket is covering their face. Just keep helping him out. He'll be sitting up on his own around six months old so the worries lessen even then.

Who is the "they" that said it's not good for babies to sleep on their stomachs once they can roll over? I wouldn't worry about "they" unless it is a professional who knows your son personally. He doesn't need to stay on his back if he can turn himself over. As far as congestion is concerned, it's probably nothing bad. I agree with the other mom who suggested a vaporizer. If you're still concerned take him to his doctor and see what she thinks.

No no he's fine... once he is able to roll onto his belly it's ok for him to sleep that way. The reason they tell you to lay your baby on your back to prevent SIDS is because when they are smaller they are not strong enough to lift their heads very high and may suffocate if they're face down in the matress. If he is strong enough to roll onto his belly then he is definitely strong enough to lift his head. Besides... once they learn to roll over there's really no stopping them from doing so :)

With his congestion... use a vapourizer in his room and pat his rib cage with force but not too much where you'd hurt him. I would check into possible allergies. Do you have a cat or dog?

when he is able to roll back over he is fine, for now just make sure the bed sheet is tight nd cant bunch, and also you could try wedges that way he cant roll at all, if he is sick you should elevate his head when he sleeps

I understand that you are worried since he can't roll onto his tummy yet, but soon he will be able to do both, then you dont' have to be concerned. You could try an infant positioner but of course you won't get much use out of it for very long...you could also try some rolled up receiving blankets?? As far as the congestion, try a hot shower or maybe a humidifer. Then use some saline drops in his nose and use the suction bulb..he will hate this but it will work and he will breathe much better for awhile...other than that, you just need to wait these little colds out. My son always takes 10 days to get over a stuffy nose. Good luck and enjoy that little one!!

he fine as long as he can lift his head..of course who knows whats going on in his little brain he may be saying to himself" hahahhahaha mewwwwwhhha i'm going to scare the shit out of mommy watch this" and rolling over just to mess with you but I doubt it.

Yes, but if he's rolling over on his own you can't stop him. It's safe if they are able to roll and lift their head up. As for the arm getting stuck, just keep letting him practice rolling and he'll get better at it in no time and then his arm won't get stuck. :)

Why is he scaring you? Because he's on his belly you mean? If he can roll over than you have nothing to worry about. You can't make him stay on his back.
