I think the most invigorating and helpful way to start your cervix to dliate is to have sex. Unless your OB has told you not to have sex, it's one of the best ways to get things going. And daddies, just remember this may be your last chance for quite a few weeks-LOL. Seriously, you'll get those hormones going and that uterus contracting...badabing.....best of luck.

with my first baby in 2000 i couldn't take it any more so in the morning i went for a walk in the forest and did starjumps, felt a bit rough in the afternoon and my waters broke about 12 hours after the jumps, a quick 6 hour labour and it was all over. hope for you that by now all the other tips have worked :-)

Sit in a rocking chair, since it helps bring the baby down! Good luck, hope something helps you out!

I was a week over and had a good cry...Sam was here 12 hours later. For the most part though, the baby will come when it's ready...Home remedies don't work. Only the doc can bring it on with meds.

I tried everything in the book and out of it. I can say it helped because eventually my son did coe out. A week later but he did. The night before the birth we went to a party (which we originally didn't think we'll make) and everybody were shouting at my stomach 'Just get out already'. He listened as within 2 hours after coming back home I went into labour. Osnat http://maaslife.blogspot.com/

How many weeks are you? If it is not time yet, I'm not sure anything will help.

I remember trying the laughing thing: America's Funniest Home Videos is one of the only things that makes me laugh outloud. Then I just tried to up it a notch.

I also did acupressure on my ankles, hands and belly. You can find acupressure points on the internet. http://acupuncture.rhizome.net.nz/acupre...

Then, I think what really did it, was toting my fussy 2 year old around the neighbourhood while we were visiting appartments. She was in a horrible mood and didn't want the stroller or her dad, so I said "heck! worst case scenario it'll send me into labour!". About 5 hours later it started.

Do be patient though. Your body will know when it is time.

i know this might sound sick but theres something in the mens come that make your labour start

The big bouncy gym ball help me aswell - I bounced on it for about an hour each day for a couple of days and then went into labour. Once at hospital after being in labour for about 4 hours it stopped suddenly and the midwife got me a gym ball and off I went again and labour started again quite quickly. A midwife also told me to drink pineapple juice as there is an enzyme in it that softens the uterous. Hope it helps and good luck hope all goes well xx

Oh, by the way, once I experienced those changes, I still didn't go into labor for another two weeks! Hours before I was supposed to be induced actually, which I was calm for so maybe relaxation does really help!

I don't think anything really works but that didn't stop me from trying with my 3rd! I walked a lot, sat on my exercise ball when I'd sit and roll around a bit - if anything, both of these help your birth get into a nice position (maybe!). Around 38 weeks I started drinking raspberry leaf tea (4 c /day) and two evening primrose capsules (one in AM, one in PM). The tea helps tone your uterus, doesn't help you go into labor but helps tone it so labor's easier and post-recovery is speedier and less bloody. The primrose is a form of prostaglandin (like what's in semen) that helps to soften your cervix. I'm not sure if this did the trick but I went from no changes one week to the next being 3, almost 4 cm dilated and 50% effaced. So if you already have cervical changes going on, it may help to "push" you over.

And like the above poster said, DO NOT take castor oil. Bad, bad, bad for you and bad for baby because it can cause a bowel movement in the womb which raises the chance of infection. Good luck!

OMG, I went naturally, I so wanted him out very badly though, I can remember that. I know eating spicy foods, hot bath and sex help, but you've already mentioned those. I've heard that sometimes either stress or laughter can bring on your labor, I have no clue why.

You may want to try homiopothy (don't know if I spelled it right). If you have a midwife in your area she could give you further directions. I took I combonation of two. I can't remember the names, but they were derive from Black Cohash and Blue Cohash. My labor started within a couple of days. He was 5 days early. Hope this is helpful.

ive done it with a big gym ball, you and your partner do it together nex to the bed-sit wide legged on the ball, remember your legs should be as wide as you can open them.

your next step will be to roll little circles on the ball, when you feel a pain in the back an front hop up and down whilst breathing deeply in and out, remember also to medetate your breathing stile, relaxation is yor key point- you can do this for 4 hours straight before bed time. let your partner stand in front of you holding your hands by calming you and talking.

hope it helps, ive learned it in hospital and dilated within 4 hours

;) let me know when the little one ARRIVES
