I'm almost at a loss for ideas for my son's first birthday. He was born December 28th so it makes it really hard to plan. I'm a SAHM so funding is limited and I don't have the space to have it at my apartment and it's too cold for the park. I don't even know when to have it! It falls on a Tuesday. The weekend before is Christmas, and the weekend after is New Year's.... I know it's 3 months away, but I know it's going to go by so fast! I'm just sort of lost for ideas....

Ok... Funding isn't THAT limited. I'm just trying to avoid spending over $300-ish. It's his first birthday so I definitely plan to make it a big deal. I'm really really really big on health though, so pizza/goodie-type things are a no-go for me. I think I'm having a hard time because it's a first birthday and most places indoors aren't age-appropriate. Everything's designed for far older children.... I've been thinking we're probably going to end up doing it the 7th. Gives people time to "get over" the holiday season. Lol. I know he may not need it or care, but I do!!! Lol!

To be completely honest I don't think you son will care.
If space and funding is limited then make a batch of cupcakes, blow up some balloons, and maybe hang some streamer. Invite only close relatives, and have it at the apartment. At this age, he is most likely to not last long for a full blown party anyways. Then if you decide to have something for friends/ larger family then wait until the after the new-year. Like I said, he wont care or remember.
Don't stress and plan a huge elaborate party. All he needs is the essentials.

mcdonalds does a pretty decent and cheap birthday party. i think it's only $50 and they provide everything. even the cake (although I would reccommend bringing your own). both of my kids are in the winter also and i always end up spending a ton of money that i really don't have planning an indoor party. my daughter is finally old enough that she said she wanted to wait until the summer for her party so she could have it at the beach. so i'm just gonna do a small sleepover on her actual bday in Jan.

this party is more for you than him this time around. i would ask to use a friend's or family members house. have a cake and a big balloon invite family members and or close friends.

I'm not sure how old your son is, but I have discovered that for my kids all that really matters, is cake, candles, balloons and presents. I've been much more organized for some birthdays than for others, but my girls really only need the essentials.

how about a winter wonderland party....if kids are present you can make lil sugar cookies to decorate with white and silver icing, and decorate with cut out snow flakes.....and I would look for city hall or maybee a church or a school gym....they will sometimes even rent them for a verrry low cost. Our local elementry school rented the gym to my cousin for free even for her lil boy's birthday party.

Is it possible to have it at a family's house? We had my first sons b-day at my Aunt's house. It was a pot luck so everyone brought something. This year we are having it at a Chinese buffet. It will be $10 a person. You could always have it at a restaurant and everyone pays for themselves. Why not due it on Jan 2? It is a Sunday and everyone should be recovered from New Years. I just wouldn't do it the week of Xmas since everyone is their busiest then.

My sons birthday is in November and when he was small I used to hire the village hall and hire a bouncy castle which was quite inexpensive. I made all the food and the cake myself and the kids loved it. See if there is a hall around that is cheap to hire. Try having some old fashioned party games like pass the parcel and musical statues the kids love it.
