Won't drink milk!

My 13 month old won't drink milk. I've tried it cold, room temperature and warm. To complicate matters we have weaned him from the bottle, so he is only drinking out of sippy cups, and he won't drink formula from a sippy cup! It's been over a week since he's had formula or milk. To keep him hydrated, I give him water and juice which he will happily drink from the sippy cup. Any ideas?

Thanks to all for the great hints. Everett is a very picky boy and doesn't like milk even with chocolate or strawberry flavoring. I'm going to try the Milk/OJ mixture and have purchased some fortified juices and Pediasure. It's nice to know that my kid isn't the only one who doesn't like milk.

My daughter is exactly the same way, it wasn't until after her 3RD Birthday that we figured out a trick to get some milk into her (before her 3RD Birthday we were giving her calcium fortified orange juice and TUMS). Basically all I did was take her cup and fill it half way with milk, then fill the other half with the calcium fortified orange juice, mix it up and tell her it was ice cream juice (it tastes like a 50/50 bar). Now she asks for ice cream juice instead of plain juice.

my mom told me of this story about me when i was an infant. i was about 2 to 3 weeks old and i quit drinking milk, actually i would gag on it. back then you could give cereal and stuff to a baby, so she sought out other baby foods rich in the nutrients i wasn't drinking and just gave me the liquids to keep me hydrated. when i had my daughter it was the same way. after about 2 weeks she started gagging when drinking milk. so i did what my mom did. the doctor didn't like it, said i should force her to drink the milk. i left the office thinking fooey on him i'm going to do this MY way. i did and now she is 14 and i am 34 we are both healthy, and both still do not like to drink milk, i use it to dunk my cookies in or to moisten my cereal but i never drink the leftovers from them. i seek out foods with extra calcium and vitamin d in them so that we have all the stuff we need to be healthy, like country crock enriched with calcium and vitamin d. i have blood tests done once a year because of some meds that i am on but my doc does a total workup on me to check my levels and they all come back ABOVE normal. do some research on foods and try them out, you will find what you need in other things and milk is not always necessary.

We are having the same problem with our son. A couple of weeks ago his formula intake lessened so we contact his doc and he suggested starting whole milk. So we did and our son will not drink it. We became really concerned that he was not getting enough to drink so we contacted the doc again and now he has him taking a daily vitamin. Our son will drink water from his sippy cup so this has been his main source of fluid other than the bottle of formula that he drinks in the morning and the one at bedtime and our doc. seems happy with that. He told us that as long as he was happy, active and peeing there is nothing to worry about. At least your son is drinking so that's a good thing. You may also want to start with a daily vitamin :) Good luck!

chocolate or strawberry milk? There are plenty of other ways kids can get those nutrients though, it doesn't have to be from milk

don't go back to the bottle, it won't be worth it... try other options that contain calcium and vitamin D

I don't have any ideas but am curious to see if others have answers. I am in the same situation. I tried adding strawberry and chocolate flavoring and soy milk among others none of them have worked. I have resulted to vitamin supplements and yogurt and cheese and any other dairy product I can find. I've been in this boat for about 2 months when I weaned him from breastmilk. He's growing fine and is perfectly healthy, but still he won't drink milk.

Have you tries choc. milk? If that does not work, give juice that is fortified with calcium. He/she really does not need milk to drink. Lots of other dairy options. Humans are the only mammals who drink milk after weaning. Good luck!

P.S. You can easily find breads fortified with calcium as well.

you might just have to let him drink from a bottle for milk for a little while longer. I know my girls do not like drinking a lot of milk, my doctor told me as long I keep giving them products with milk they still get there calcium.
