Snoring is a sign of sleep apnea. Bring it to the attention of his pediatrician and they will let you know if you need to be concerned or not.

All babies have apnea to some extent. The lungs are the last organ to come on line and they still need lots of practice after they come out. The best hing you can do for him is to have him sleep where he can at lest see and hear you and touching you is best. The more physical contact he has with mom while asleep, the faster he will learn to control his own breathing, heartbeat, and temperature.

Absolutely consult a doctor. Also google, infant apnea and co-sleeping. Recent studies have shown that infants haven't yet fully developed the ability to regulate their breathing when asleep like adults do (in a similar way to their inability to regulate body temperature). What is being found is that physical contact with a parent whilst sleeping helps the child to start breathing again when this happens. The parent senses the break in the baby's breathing rhythm and responds, the smallest touch or nudge can trigger the reflex to breathe. Sleep studies show that this can happen without the parent even being aware of it, whilst both parent and child is fast asleep. Such is the symbiotic bond of mother and child. This is one of the reasons that when done properly co-sleeping dramatically reduces the risk of SIDS. (properly as in, no smoking, drinking, drugs etc when co-sleeping)
I've had this happen once with my son. It only occurred once that I was aware of and I mentioned it to my maternal child health nurse and a couple of midwife friends. All of them suggested I look into co-sleeping, or sleeping in the same room as my son. Obviously co-sleeping isn't convenient for every family, however if you are worried it might be something to try in the short term to reassure you until you have consulted a doctor and found out more.

my daughter had her tonsls and adanoids out when she was 2 becasue they were big and caused the snoring check with your doctor and ask to see an ENT doctor

It could be many things, adenioids, deviated septum, etc, Take him to the Dr, repetitivly if necessary

Most likely he will need to have his adenoids out you need to speak to your pediatrician right away and then get him to an ENT(Ear, nose and throat specialist).

we have never had this problem. However, if I were you, I would check with the pediatrician. Even if there is nothing wrong, they can give you directions about what to do if one it is serious.

Sleep apnea is taken very seriously under the age of 5 and the sooner you get this checked out the better. 5 seconds is ok, some children hold their breath for over a minute. It is worrying it really is. Try not to worry to much, you are doing the right thing by getting him checked out early.

Yep, that's what I brought my daughter to. They will check his adenoids too, probably why they are sending you to an ENT or to check his tonsils.

Thank you I do have an appointment on saturday.taking him to an Ent specialist so we'll see from there how it goes.

My daughter snored to high heaven but it wasn't until she was 3 that they figured out what was wrong and fixed it. She had extremly large adenoids. Due to them being so large she suffered terrible sinutitus from age 1 to age 3. She would get so sick, that it appeared she was dying. However, once they removed her adenoids, she was completely fine. This is not always the outcome. Typically they grow into them, my daughter just didn't.



Of course, this may not be the issue for your baby. I would bring him to the doc and see what the doc has to say. It may just be normal....I wouldn't worry yourself too much, as long as he is still breathing but I wouldn't wait to see the doc either.
