depending on how big your baby is, my friend just had a baby the other day at 12 pounds ! but i would suggest waiting but if it hurts you to bad then i would say talk to your doctor, as i never had any problem through my pregnancy not even morning sickness and i gained only 20 pounds throughout i can call myself lucky but im scared to have another considering if i got lucky once i doubt i will twice hah ... all i have to say is dont stress try to wear comfy shoes and drink alot of cold water, try getting a hot pack for your back that helped alot when i was in the hospital for my contractions , and its your opinion when ever you think you cant handle it at all any more then i would suggest going in to talk to your doctor !

Your situation sounds a bit serious, you shouldn't be so swelled up. You really should go and get checked up by a doctor and check your kidneys and everything, and also check for preclamsia or anything because it is dangerous. If you feel so bad, and really feel like you should get induced, you can ask for a shot that will make your babie's lungs mature.

In my case my body tried to go to labour really early (5 months) ... and I got this shot just in case and my babies lungs matured quickly. But ofcoure everyones case is different and you must go to a doctor, but you can ask for this, sometimes they dont tell you all the options, but if you ask he can take your desire into account. I hope everything goes really well for you! :)

Wow, Amanda, thanks for posting - I'd never heard that about Chanca piedra. So our friend better wait 'til pregnancy is over to try this! Wish there were more studies on herbal remedies; many are very useful and seem to have fewer unintended consequences - but nothing is without risk of side effects, esp in large doses.

Like so many of the other ladies said above, I would recommend you see your doctor as soon as possible.
However, I would not advise you to try Chanca Piedra while pregnant as it is a "treatment" for miscarriage and is also used as an abortive drug in Brazil. This is at high dosage but why chance it. Everything I've read on it recommends that it not be used during pregnancy.

Definitely your Dr. and you have to make the induction decision together. However, I have some info on kidney stones that you may find extremely useful. Perhaps if you can get the stones under control, you may not need as much intervention in your pregnancy. There is an herb called "chanca piedra" (chanca means break in Quechuan, the language of the Incas, and piedra means stone, so literally "break stone.")
This herb has been used by the Incas for many years, but recently has been scrutinized by modern scientists and MDs in scientific studies published in South American and Europe. The studies have been conclusive enough that the Brazilian government medical service lists chanca piedra is the treatment of choice for kidney stones. The Denmark studies were published in major medical publications in England and Denmark.
I think there's very little downside risk in taking this herb. You wouldn't have to go against any medical advice from your physicians as far as how they are treating the stones.. I have only had kidney stones once, and my experience with using Chanca Piedra was excellent. My MD could see the size of them in the x-ray, and told me they were small enough to pass but it would be very painful. She told me to pee into a small sieve to catch the stone(s), which I did for the next week and a half. But I never passed a stone. , I just took the CP and never had to pass the stones. The pain diminished a little bit every day from when I started taking it until it completely disappeared, without every passing anything. The stones simply broke up. I take small amounts of CP once a week or so as a preventative, and have never had another one. I've had friends with very severe kidney stones like yours who've stopped getting them and stopped having to have stents, etc.
Soo, the way to get the stuff is any good natural foods store or whatever. The botanical name for Chanca Piedra is Phyllanthus Niruri. Herb Pharm is a good brand. They call theirs "break stone" but it does contain Phyllanthus Niruri, which is what the research has been done on (there are other traditional herbs, for example from India's Ayurvedic tradition, that are also called break stone, but are different substances and have not had research.) If you can't find it anywhere, you can mail order it from www.absolutelythepurest.com. It comes as a tincture with a little dropper; take 6-8 drops several times a day in water. Another source of CP is that it's an ingredient in "Treasure Tea" from Amazon Herb Co...but that's a multilevel mktg co so you have to find a distributor and it's expensive. But a heckuva lot cheaper than stents.

Definetly call your doctor (if you haven't already) immediately. Severe swelling is an indication of pre eclampsia which if not closely monitored by a doctor is highly dangerous to both you and the baby. But your OB will examine you, run test and decide what's the best thing to do for you and the baby. If there's medical issues that the pregnancy is making worse, they can try and give you medication, depending on what the specific problems are. Delivering before 37 weeks is considered premature.. and even delivering at 37 weeks has its own set of risks. I was pre eclamptic with my daughter and had a c section at 37.5 weeks and even though she was considered full term, she had several problems that premies have, including problems breathing. She's perfectly healthy now almost 3 years later though. But yes, call your doctor right away.

ASK YOUR DOCTOR. Sorry for the caps, but I am sure your Dr. will have much better advice than random Moms on a website. I pray all goes well. And remember, just because you ask doesn't mean he will do it. He will make a judgment based on what is best for you and your baby.

This is a matter for you and your doctor. See him/her now!! If you are in danger you must preserve yourself you will be greatly needed for your family. But if you are not in any danger. Do not induce for "comfort" As your first baby you really have no idea of the pain, stress, exhaustion and desparate need you will have to keep your child safe. Trust me. No matter how swollen, uncomfortable or in pain you are in now it will be nothing compared to the sleepless, helpless, anxiety you will experiance if you elect to have your child too soon. He/she will be rushed away from you, hooked to machines, poked prodded every hour. You may not be able to nurse and you may not even be able to hold him/her. And lung infections, life-long disabilites and even death can occur. Even with today's technology. Never ever ever induce too soon if it can be helped. Unless you are in danger it is not worth it.

I would wait until at least 38 weeks. 36 weeks is considered "near term." Many near term babies have feeding issues, they can have breathing issues and problems controlling their temperature as well. This would be far less likely at 38 weeks. Unless there was a severe/life threatening risk to yours or the babies health, I think you'd find it difficult to find a doctor to induce that early. The last month or two of pregnancy can be very uncomfortable for anyone, so I do feel for you. But, in the best interest of the baby, you'd be best to wait a bit longer.

I would make an appointment immediately. I developed pre-eclampsia at 35 weeks... My blood pressure was through the roof and swelling was so bad.... They induced me at 35 weeks and then finally had a c-section.... But other then being smaller (4lbs 15 ozs) she was healthy. I know have a beautiful and energetic three year old little girl But the longer you go the more damage you could be doing to yourself...or your baby... Obviously they want the baby to stay in as long as possible but you have to weigh the options for the safety of you and the baby. Hope that all works out... I will pray for you and your baby.

YOu should be seen immediately and I would question the dr. on maybe being put in the hospital to have this closely monitored so that if there is any risk that someone would be there to get you and the baby the help and care that you need. But only the dr. can decide if you should be delivered immediately or if induction is a safe alternative at this point. Good luck and best wishes for a hahppy baby.

if you haven't yet, go see your doctor. call and see if you can get in today, and if not, go anyways. There are several things this reminds me of, none of them good and all potentially harmful. If the doctor thinks that you'll need to be induced early they may give you a shot of steroids to help mature baby's lungs.

I would be very concerned about eclampsia and you should ask to be screened for it! You do not need to have high blood pressure but they can urine screen and do blood work to see you and your child could be in danger.

I had this same thing happen 3 years ago. After two amnios, it was determined I couldn't be induced as my little guy's lungs were not developed enough yet. They will likely not induce you without checking the lung development first. kidney stones, as you well know, are worse than labor and you don't get anything near as good as a baby afterwards, so I feel for you and I say go ahead and ask, but know there is a chance they wont be able to. And be prepared there maybe an amniocentesis involved.

If your face is swollen... go to the doctor now. Typically speaking... the longer the baby is in, the better, but there are some circumstances where early induction IS the best option. Given your swelling face and kidney issues your doctor should be monitoring you closely in order to make this determination.

No one over the internet can give you advice on your specific medical case other than to seek your doctor.
