I would tell her how beauty pageants are a lot of fluff and hype, and how they exploit women for sexual value. They also use a lot of money and time that could be better spent on more valuable pursuits in life. ( vocations) It is better to be remembered for more important things! And to learn character traits. Read the Bible and see for yourselves how God wants women to be in Titus 2.

It depends on the child, the pageant, and the family resources. Even though there are a few sane pageants out there, if she gets serious about it, it could be huge drain of time and finances. You might want to try one or two small local ones to let her see it form the other side. If she's only seen the glamor of the finished product on TV, she may not realize how much work it takes and how few people get there. There's also a chance she could get some scholarships.

If she is asking to do a pageant I don't see the harm in letting her. Not all pageants are like what you see on "Toddler's and Tiara's." A lot of pageants are actually really good for girls and their emotional well being and self-esteem. Good pageants will require community service jobs/tasks to be completed and will show your daughter about helping others and her community. I would at least look into your local pageants and what they have to offer before you rule out the idea entirely. She may do one and then decide it's not for her or what she expected. She could also gain some great self confidence (something a lot of girls lack these days) as well as compassion and some great friends. I always feel that if my child has expressed an interest, I should at least let them test the waters. You don't have to keep doing them if it doesn't feel right.
That stupid show has really tainted the pageant world. ugh!

Depends on how old my daughter was and if she really wanted to. Personally, I don't like pageants. I believe it over sexualizes children. Plus, some of them can be pretty expensive. Now I have a beautiful daughter and have no doubt she would do pretty good, but I just wouldn't feel comfortable putting her in one.

Let her know that you are happy she is making some decisions for herself but ask her why she wants to do it, how she can benefit from it, and what talents can she bring to a Pageant. How old is she?
