wrong gender nightmare anyone?

Hii. I'm having twins! And we got and ultrasound done at 16w 2d at a place that just opened. It was regular 2d ultrasound and the the place was kinda sketchy. The guy didn't even know which was baby a and baby b I had to tell him. And baby b was easy to see cuz she is out in the open and when it came time to see baby a which is tucked in my pelvis already it took him at least 10 mins. Just to see. And he says to me o there's nothing hanging so it's a girl! And so now I'm second guessing. I have two daughters already! What do u think?

When I was pregnant with my first I knew right from the start she was a girl. A nurse tried to tell me she was a boy because of her heart beat. With my second I wasn't sure. Guess I was kinda hoping for a boy where I already had my girl. I always knew I wanted two children but I was hoping for one of each. All my dreams with my second were about a boy but I didn't get my hopes up because I knew that it could possibly be wrong. I did not get an ultrasound because I really didn't want to know. I didn't want to be told for sure that I was having a girl and end up feeling bad because I really wanted a boy. I love both of my daughters and would not give them up for the world. I believe everyone has times when they may feel a certain way and feel bad for feeling that way. You are only human and sometimes have no control over your emotions. No one, any one who really cares for you anyway, is going to put you down for having feelings whether they are good or bad.

You should look for a place that does 3d or 4d ultrsounds.  Its fairly inexpensive for what you are getting and the pictures are amazing.  Its like looking at a photo of your baby in the whomb.  I have personally never had it done but know several people who have and have seen the picture.  Your ob would probly know where you can get it done.  And they should be able to confirm the sex

You can always ask for another ultrasound. I know a lot of people who get one just to find out the sex of the baby.

Hi there ..I have always been told that dreams mean the opposite.....so I wouldnt worry to much about it am sure you are gonna have a lovely baby boy

nearly 4 yrs ago i was told that they were 99.9% sure i was having a girl - (that was okay as i already had a girl - no extra shopping needed!!!).  then 2 weeks before i was due i fell down some stairs and was rushed to hospital - they then did another ultra sound. the doct asked if we knew the sex and then said about being one of the lucky ones that have one of each sex!! (already having a girl) i nearly fell over when he said that we were having a boy and not the girl we were expecting.  Robbbie was born 2 weeks later and up until he actually came out i was really confused - would it be a girl like they first said or a boy  like they had jusyt told me. I was gifted with a great little boy - and am so happy but i would have been no matter the result.

You can always request another ultrasound. I think that as pregnant women we find something to fixate on about this upcoming life change and just mull and chew and have nightmares. I dont know...for me I was just convinced that I was going to loose my baby. But here she is 7 months old and glorious. Even if OOPS! its a girl theres nothin to do but change yourmind set and the nursery and get ready to love that baby no matter what shape their little bottom takes.

Another thought: with my son, I had a hard time picturing what kind of mother I would be to a boy. I had all these visions of girl nights and spa days, and a boy didn't fit into that picture well. I wasn't disappointed when they told me he was a boy, per se, but I was having a difficult time imagining what our relationship could be like. That may be part of the root of your dreams. I must tell you now that I LOVE having a boy. He is so loving and cuddly and sweet. I will be happy whatever this baby turns out to be (even intersex lol!) but now I know how wonderful life with a little bundle of boy can be.

Could be worse... I've been having dreams that my child is born intersex (i.e. Both!). Now *that* is a frightening proposition (mostly because I would have a hard time deciding the right thing to do for my child).



I assume that you have print outs of the current ultrasound. You can compare what you see to this quiz (which is also just kind of fun to take):

There are also many resources online that explain how the techs reach their conclusions. Seeing it yourself may give you peace of mind.



You could also pay for a 3-D ultrasound to be really sure. Last I checked (2007) the least expensive package around here was $200.

I know of at least three people who were told they were having X and found out later they were having Y.  The only 100% sure fire way of knowing what you are having is to give birth.  You can always take things back if they are not right.  We didn not know what we were having.  We thought it was a girl but it was a boy.  We dind't even have a name for a boy so we had to come up with something quick.  I liked that though since we got to see his precious little face and find a name that really fit him and not one that we just liked.

I have always wanted a girl but when my ultrasound for my first two kids said boy I cried with happiness, no bad feelings. With my third baby the little devil didnt open their legs...I tried really hard to convince myself I was having a boy just so I wouldnt get my hopes up for a girl or be dissapointed if I had a boy. I had a beautiful girl. My friend who was pregnant at the same time as me for our first didnt find out what she was having, but she really wanted a girl. She had trouble in her labour and wasnt awake when her son was born. She told me she actually felt dissapointed and didnt bond with her son for a couple of days. When she was pregnant with her second and last she found out the sex so if it was a boy she could be prepared and not dissapointed. I wouldnt worry if I was you because even though my friend was dissapointed in a few days she was over the moon and bonding with her son. If you have a daughter you might not be dissapointed...even if you are there is still that instant love between mum and bubs. Chances are you are having a boy though. I was told at my ultrasounds for my three kids that with boys they are around 99% sure but with girls its harder to tell.Dont worry soon you will have a beautiful baby to love and look after, the sex of bubs wont change your feelings.

I wouldn't go through the expense of another ultrasound.  If it says boy again, that doesn't mean that the dreams will change.  And if it says girl, then you just have conflicting ultrasounds.  The truth is you will never know for sure until you actually give birth.  Then you will be so happy to have a healthy baby that you won't care what gender it is.

I had a recurring dream when I was pregnant that my daughter was polka dotted (she's biracial).  She came out perfect and would have been perfect even if she was polka dotted!  You just have to take dreams with a grain of salt.

If the ultrasound tech said your having a boy, he/she is probably right. The sexing is based on seeing either male genitalia or female genitalia. If you were told it was to be a girl, and you thought maybe you were having a boy then you might have more of a reason to be concerned. Since the penis was spotted, you're in good shape. Don't sweat it.

I had that same dream after we had the ultra sound with our first and second.  We were told we were pregnant with boys, but I had dreams that we were surprised with girls.   We  really were blessed with boys.  I am sure I had those dreams because of some of the stories people told me about when they were pregnant. tee hee.   We didn't sweat it.

I  just asked some of my girlfriends who had girls if they had some newborn clothes that I could have just incase we were surprised with a girl. We also picked out baby necessities that were pretty gender neutral( bedding, stroller, car seat).  We picked out girl and boy names prior to the ultra sound just so we would be prepared for either.

If you still have things with tags or that were gifts from people just keep them in packages or keep the tags on that way you are able to exchange them if necessary.

Try not to let the dreams create anxiety for you, in the end your baby won't care if they are wearing blue or pink or what their room looks like they just want to do what babies do.

: ) I'm prego with a boy to and I'm due also in May and I hear that it is 99.9% when they see two bells and a whisle that it is a boy and for a girl they are only 80% sure and sometimes people who are having a girl end up with a boy. Just what nurses have told me. : )

Congrats on your baby!
I felt the same way with my last baby! We were told at the 18wks u/s he was a boy, but I kept having dreams he was a girl and wanted another u/s to confirm, but I would have had to pay for it and I couldn't afford it.
He turned out a boy, lol.
For me, I think it was just getting used to the idea of a boy because the last two pregnancies I had were girls, I hadn't had a boy for 9 years.
If your 18wk u/s was pretty sure, then it was most likely right. Its probably just some weird psychological pregnant thing!

My sister had 3 ultra sounds that said girl (15 years ago) His name is Andrew so accidents happen but I think tech. has improved

with the ultrasound, it they say it is a boy, 99% of the time they are right as it is pretty hard to miss!! (obviously as long as he lets you have a look!)  For the first probley 6 months I was positive I was having a girl and when my doctor said I was having a boy I was some what shocked and still had dreams up until he was born that it was a girl!!

I have 3 kids and I didn't want to know what I was having for any of them, so I was on an emotional roller coaster the whole 9 months and couldn't wait to get through labor to see what miracle would come. Once you go through all the pain and work of labor and you see your child for the first time it will totally erase any pre-birth "wish or choice" of a boy or a girl....you will be so happy and overwhelmed with whatever the outcome and none of what you've already done will ever be in vain. Forgive me, but it's been 9 years. I am pretty sure you can ask for another ultrasound, but your insurance might not cover one just for the sake of determining the gender. I believe my doctor did charge extra for those. You will have to ask your office their policy.



When I was pregnant, mom son never showed his parts, so I did *plan* on having a girl. Luckily we went with gender neutral colors. I wouldn't worry to much over the blues and pinks of decoration... if you happen to end up with a girl... you'll be redecorating fairly quickly anyway... you'll know their little personality soon enough... who knows... she might even like blue!
