Your first thought the minute you saw your baby?

I had very vivid first thoughts and it is interesting to think of them now that my kids are older. Someone else has a thread about your first thoughts when you went into labor and it made me think about this question. I'm ready for something lighter and not so controversial! What was the very first thing you thought/said when you looked at your newborn? I have 4 and I thought:

First girl: "Is she alive? Is it really a girl? Good, get her away from me and let me sleep!!"
(21 hours of back labor, forceps delivery, huge amount of cutting/tearing, thought I was going to die)

Second girl: "Oh, my gosh! Look at her long fingers! I think she's going to be a pianist!"
(She is, actually, and a violinist too)

Third girl: "Wow. She looks like a really cute BOY."
(she seriously did)

Fourth Child, Boy: "He is so tiny and sweet! Now unstrap me from this stupid table and let me nurse him!"
(he weighed almost a pound less than my previous child and I had a c-section)

How about you?

"OMG! I finally get to hold my baby!!!" (I'd been separated from her for 2 and a half hours and the damn nurses didn't let me have her despite me asking every 10-15 minutes for that entire time)

LOL! Thanks everyone! It is so funny to hear that everyone else thought silly stuff like I did. Sorry about that throwing up part, Sharon. I hear a lot of people do that but I somehow dodged that bullet.

1st girl- Good Lord, she looks just like me!

2nd girl- Oh My God! She looks like the first one, only in a plastic man kinda way! ( she was skinnier and longer)

3rd girl- What do you mean its a girl?? You said BOY! Holy Crap! Are you sure she isnt a month late?? (She was an entire pound heavier than the other two, and a whole inch shorter. She was short, fat, and huge! Later after the meds wore off, I was happy with my third girl)

My first thought when my oldest, second and third were born was "finally" then "eww". They come out looking kind of slimy but having a child at 19....typical. I thought it was neat that she was really there and that I did it. Surreal to say the least. Once the eyes blink or I heard a cry, I felt releaved that they were okay. Numb maybe?

My first thought when my oldest daughter was born was "she looks just like her father!" My first thought when my youngest daughter was born was "finally!" (longer labor) and "she looks like me!"

My experience was very different from "Normal" My daughter was born @ 24 wks gestation weighing in at 1 1/2 lbs. So my first thoughts were OMG she came out breathing (with much excitement) hmmmm her eyes are fused, and when will I get to go to the NICU and see her.

Breathing at 24 wks was a huge deal I was told she wouldnt be at all. She only breathed on her own for 30 mins but it was a good sign that she was a fighter.

Her right eye opened at 4 days old and her left at 14 days old...

She was 12 hrs old the first time I really got to see her.

Now 3 happy healthy and normal... thank God for the March of Dimes and NICU Dr's & Nurses

I remember overwhelming joy mixed with "Wow. She looks like a little alien."
I also had a touch of "This is such a cute litte, baby, whose baby is....Oh my God, she's mine."

My first thoughts were "Wow, he's amazing and beautiful," and mostly "I'm so glad I did it!" My husband's first thought was, "He's gross" followed by, "Oh my gosh, did he just poop on her?"

My memories of my first son's birth are overwhelming, but I vividly remember the first morning when we were at home & I woke up to see my son's eyes staring straight at me (he was in a crib right next to my bed), & I remember looking into his eyes thinking 'holy crap, I'm amazing, look at what I created'. Didn't realise that time would fly past & that I could practically spend a whole day just 'looking' at him.

My first thought was "Is he breathing on his own?" followed by the silly "Are his pinkies crooked?" (Hereditary trait-some of us have crooked pinkies & 2nd toes!)

And then I admit-the next thought was "OMG I AM GOING TO PUKE!" and I did :-(

My first thought: She's finally here! Our healthy baby girl!

Second thought: Thank goodness that's over and I'm never doing it again!!

My first girl (and only child so far) - My God, why isn't she crying?? After a few minutes she found her lungs and all was well. My husbands first thought was, I hope that cone shaped head goes down!! Vacuum assisted labor : )

My first boy: "he looks like a big red baby rat!" I'd had pethedine which knocked me for 6!

My second boy: "what's wrong with him? Doesn't he need to be on oxygen?" He was delivered very quickly and was very badly bruised (his face was grey!) He was fine though!

My third baby: "OMG it's a girl!!!" we didn't know the sex of our third until she was born as we couldn't tell from the scan! I only got to hold her for a min before she was taken away from me as I lost quite a lot of blood and they thought I might be in trouble but it was just cos I was in a very upright position when I delivered and as soon as i reclined a bit they were happy I was ok!

With all my kids I thought OMG they all have really long eye lashes, i'm just jealous lol.
