Yucky Sippy Cups

I use the born free sippy cup...I love it. I can wash it easily and never had any issue. it's little expensive but worth it any day. If you lose a part you can easily find them. I have had incident when my son chew the sippy cup's nipple and I had to buy new one.I always use 2 differnt cup for juice and milk so my baby exactly knows what he is getting.

My cups have done this too and we resorted to one milk cup, one juice cup and one water cup.

My aunt swears by baking soda to get stains and smells out if plastic. She mixes it with a little water and lets it soak then scrubs it. My son wont drink juice so i dont have this problem. But I would give it a try if i did have it.

i know the orange juice does stain and leave an odor. but like one mom said if you dilute the bleach enough it wont get into the plastic. you can also go to www.clorox.com and they have a bunch of tips on soaking bottles and sippy cups. they also tell you how much of each to use and for how long. if you keep having the problem then you could buy some of the replacement valves and use ones for juice and ones for milk only. then they wont mix.

Try boiling them! Maybe that would get the yucky smell/taste out of them. I haven't noticed with mine, but I think I might check now...my daughter will drink or eat just about anything without complaining!!

It's wierd no one has had this problem. We mainly use the "Simply Orange" and "Simply Apple" juices (in milk and yogurt section of a store). She gets Sunny D from her grandma. The simply juices are very fresh and all natural juices that must be very strong (usually 1/2 watered down). I love those juices, but that's probably the reason.

Those juice drinks you mention have A TON of sugar added to them, and I would bet the amount of sugar is one of your main culprits in why those cups are getting stained so bad. My daughter is 3, and we buy only 100% fruit juice for her, and it gets watered down by 50% even still. No matter what brand of sippy cup we have used, we have never had a problem with the juice smell lingering after washing.

Also, maybe try a little vinegar in the water. I know that for other tough smells in the house, vinegar is a natural cleanser / disinfectant and may help rid the cups of the juice smell. Try a sinkful of hot water with about half a cup or so of vinegar (enough where you smell the vinegar in the water but not so much that it's overpowering). Soak them for about 20 minutes or so and then rinse well. I've used vinegar in my laundry to get rid of odors from things like wet towels, etc.

I use the Gerber ones and I've never had this problem. I use Juicy Juice though so I don't know if that makes a difference. We don't use Sunny D but I would imagine it must have some kind of dye that is obviously staining? The only stains we get are on the mouth pieces where he has used his teeth to scrape the plastic. Then he eats something like spaghetti and it stains the mouthpiece. Maybe try soaking them in a sinkful of hot water with about a quarter cup of bleach. The bleach will be diluted enough that it won't soak into the plastic. You just have to make sure to rinse them really well. Hope this helps.
