I became a widow and single mom on 12/13/07 when a drunk driver hit my husband in a head on collision. We, like many take each day one at a time. Yesterday, we had the setencing hearing an it could not have gone any better. The Da asked for the max - 15 years serving 10. Can you believe the defendant asked for 3 years house arrest!!! Is that not a joke? Anyway, the judge, gave him the MAX! It was shocking. having to bear my soul how my two schildren are doing - they still will not sleep upstairs - they remember the policeman coming to the door.

AS I am writing this I am somewhat at peace but now have a heavier heart in the grieveing end. I still have a huge civil suit as this man who was more than double the limit had been on the clock at a work event that provided the alcohol. Praying it settles this year so i can begin to pick up the pieces, talk openly , and start changing laws.

I look forward to getting to know you all - once you have been put in our postition you really have a common bond - that can not be broken. I found that too when my oldest daughter who id now 9 was diagnosed with a cousin of cancer and endured 15 months of chemotherapy.

It is late -and I am tired -

Hi Heather

I could not imagine losing my husband the way you did. I have thought of it before and I am so very thankful that after his diagnosis, I had 8 months with him before he was gone. I am happy for you that justice has prevailed!!!!!

Justice does not bring him back though but changing a law will honor his memory.
