Have you used a baby sitter finder web site?

I recently found out about sites like "Care.com" and other sites.

Has anyone tried them? Are they worth the subscription prices?

Thanks for the info. I never wanted to pay the care.com or sittercity prices. Too expensive. There are other cheaper options though like http://www.sitterfinder.com . I like the idea of the facebook thing too. I think I might try that. Mary

Thanks, Chanequa. I have been using Facebook to coordinate the college students I use from time to time. I send a message to the group, so that when the first 'yes' comes in, everyone else knows that they don't need to reply. I will extend the question, though - that's a great idea.

I joined Sittercity.com but wish I hadn't. I did interviews with a few folks through the site when I first signed up, but never hired any of them, not because they weren't good but because we had better success through our networks.

We just started a new experiment. Last week I created a facebook group looking for babysitters for my son and sent it out to about 30 friends. So far, 14 people have signed up, including some whom I hadn't expected. You'd be surprised to see who's willing to babysit if you just ask. You might try that before you pay the subscription price for the sitter sites. But if you're in a new area and don't know anyone, I think the sitter sites are pretty good options.
