Has anyone ever worked for Ameriplan?

Hi! I'm wondering if any of you have worked/currently work with Ameriplan. They require about $100 in start up costs, which I'm not comfortable with. If I knew of at least one person who has done it and know it works, it would make me feel better.

I would just like to let everyone know what I have found out about Ameriplan, and help anyone out there who is considering working for this company! I applied for a position and set up a time that I could speak with a representative. But before that phone call I did a little research of my own. When I looked in the phone book and googled our local Ameriplan office and Sales Rep, we do not have an area representative any longer, they closed their office. Since Ameriplan is basically selling medical and pharmacy discounts, the first thing I did was look up the list of Ameriplan Network Providers in my area. My findings were: we have 0 (zero) Primary Care Physicians in my area, 7 Eye Doctors, 3 Dental offices, 0 (zero) Urgent Cares and 43 Pharmacies. Having this information, I can now see why we do not have an Ameriplan Representative in the area. Because there are very few providers that accept Ameriplan; and that would mean you would have to switch to those few providers if you wanted to benefit at all from the plan.

I finally talked to a representative and asked her how would I be able to sell the plans to family, friends, etc if there are no providers in the area. She said she mainly focuses on getting people that are interested to sign up to be an Ameriplan Representative. Which to me is just a pyramid scheme. I could not do this, it is unethical. If I were a Rep, I would sell the plans, then the individual who bought the plan would find out there were no providers in the area, so they would just cancel their plan. I think the only way a person could even benefit from this is if they were on multiple prescriptions per month that costs a lot of out of pocket money. At least in my area, they have 43 pharmacies to choose from, but I don't know what the savings would be.

Like I have heard time and time again when researching these work from home companies, if you have to pay a company to work for them, then it's a scam, they should be paying you for making their company more money. Paying a monthly fee as well as a start-up fee, that is absurd. Please, always, always google the company and read any posted reviews. I almost fell for another scam this week, but once again the background research paid off.

Hope this has helped!

Hello ladies! I just wanted to chime in here. Teresa is an amazing leader on the Freedom at Home Team. She believes in working in transparency....sometimes we don't like the answers or it wasn't what we wanted to hear, but it's the TRUTH and that's what matters. She will never mislead you or "hype" this business up.

With that said, I agree with her in that you should absolutely do your research, and you should believe in the company you choose. Yes, I understand "start up costs" or "fees" are scary, but please don't get caught in the same place I was.....going back to school while balancing a full time job and raising a 2 and 4 year old....all the while searching for 3 long years for work at home. I passed on every single thing that had a fee, because I didn't get why I had to pay. Then a light bulb went on one day...to start my "job", I had to buy slip resistant shoes (shift manager in a restaurant), uniforms, gas to get back and forth to work until my first paycheck, and don't forget daycare. Ugh. That costed me way more than a home based business!!! And I could only work as many hours as they "approved" even though I needed much more income than that. Also, don't forget as I said, I was also going to school (which, if I can remind you costs a LOT of money, and I STILL haven't found a job in my field, but have to pay back almost 30,000 in loans...just saying).

My only regret was that I didn't "get" this sooner. I'm not telling you to enroll with Ameriplan. But I am telling you reseach the difference between home based businesses and jobs with an OPEN mind so you don't waste 3 years looking for something that doesn't exist.

Oh yeah, I did find a "job" from home...I had to pay $175 for their "software", pay for my own background check and drug screen, and had to have silence in my house so back to the daycare...why would I give all that to someone else??? I pay very little for my business, it's 100% tax deductible, I save more than I spend with Ameriplan ($30 on my T mobile bill every month, $5 on every oil change, $40 off of brakes for my car, at least $75/month savings on groceries every month, and that's not even touching my savings on dental, prescription etc. AND my kids can be home with me ALL day!!! No schedule!).

The question was "is it legit?". Yes, we are have 500,000 providers, Good Morning America as well as the American Medical Review did a feature on us, we are affiliated with the FBI (!!!), A+ rating with the BBB, member of the National Association of Dental Plans, do business with WalMart, Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS blah blah blah blah oh and we have done all that for 21 years. No doubt we are legit.

Now the question is "is it a good fit for you?". I don't know...are you coachable? Are you sick of trading time for money? Do you want to retire in 10 years? Are you willing to work????? If so, call Teresa :-) If not, that's okay too!! A job may be a better fit for you!!

One last thing....grammar makes us "fake"? I don't recall who said that, but I wanted to say I use terrible grammar. I spelled everything properly here just to prove a point, however, most of the time....

I wuz writin like this ;)

But seriously tho, you should find what makes you happy, but have an open mind while you search, because I was NOT loooking for a business....but now I can't imagine doing anything else!!!

I tried selling Ameriplan for a year or so. I did everything I could to put the information out there. I put brochures on cars, in grocery stores, etc, and even bought some leads. I never got one single sell. They charge a monthly fee of about $50 to maintain your web site. Then one day I decided to try the plan for myself when I needed a crown. Imagine my surprise to learn it was going to cost me more at a dentist on the Ameriplan plan than full price at my regular dentist.

Hi Melissa & the other ladies here with questions...
I so understand your concerns there is a lot of junk out there so yes be careful, do your homework. I encourage that! Also make sure you get the training and support you deserve as a newbie and ongoing!

Here is my experience with Ameriplan I used to work in a dental office for 7yrs... our Dentist took Ameriplan for his patients....they loved it and so did the docotor! SAVING money anywhere from 50%-80% on dental services. That's HUGE! Some of those patients had been on the plan for 15 plus years! !!! When my boss retired and I found I could work with this company I knew what a gem I had found....You see I had looked and looked I tried a few things just not really the change/career until NOW! We are a 20yr old health benefits company, A+ rating with the BBB check it out here http://www.bbb.org/dallas/business-revie...

Many Blessings in whatever you do!

P.S. Please note-Accredited- with the BBB means the "company" pays for that status, our company chooses to stand on it own merit rather than pay for a misleading "Accredited" status. A+

Don't do it! Whatever you do, do NOT give them your credit or debit card number. They will not stop charging you even after you realize that nobody is buying their product. They make their money off of people who want a work at home job. This is not a work at home job. This is just another multi-level marketing ripoff.
Here is the breakdown:
How many people will buy your product? - 1 out of 10? Ok, then you need to talk to 10 people if you want to make 1 sale.
How many sales do you want to make every day? 5? Ok, then you need to go talk to 50 people! Go out and "make it happen"
They will take your money out of your bank account even after you move on.

If you see this, leave this form field blank.

Hi Teresa, you speak highly of Ameriplan, and I have some questions for you:

My biggest question is have you made any money working with them??

And of course, you have to deduct everything you invest from your actually earnings to give an accurate amount??

Thanks Much. Kyra

@Teresa Ann Did you read the BBB complaints against the company...looks like there are some unhappy people. They claim to refund your money if you are not happy, then keep your money for exorbitant amounts of time, they're rude about the process and ultimately if you want action have to go through the BBB, The Attorney Generals office and many other routes to get them to stop charging your account.

My advise to all, STAY AWAY FROM THE COMPANY!

Some how we missed this question sorry....it is a good one! The new Affordable Care Act how does it change or effects those who work with Ameriplan. My experience and my teams experience has been a positive effect and that is good more people have the need for dental and a supplemental health care benefits. If a personal qualifies for a Obamacare plan it still does not cover everything. I am also finding some are choosing to just take the tax penalty for 2014 and save money by opting out of the ACA (Affordable Care Act or Obamacare) I hope this helps ;-)

Have a good evening!

This is a 2 part post. First, it really kills me that people who know nothing about a company, or business in general for that matter claim to be trying to help others with their knowledge of nothing. I have been in business as a Realtor for 13 years and there are always fees and expenses...all kinds of fees including website fees. If you are in network marketing, you need to pay for for the product or service and usually websites, supplies, etc. I don't know of any business that doesn't have someone or something to pay up front. It's called the cost of doing business. When people are ignorant and don't want to educate themselves, they will call it a pyramid scam. Those people should just keep working for their employer for an hourly wage because they will always be looking for what is wrong rather than what is right. They live in a negative world. Don't get me wrong, I am all for due diligence and learning everything about the business you are considering. Not doing so is ignorance as well and you can definitely get burned. What's nice for me about having a side business is that I am able to write off a portion of all of my utilities along with my auto, meals and phone/equipment.

Here's my question: Who can tell me how easy or difficult it is to get new doctors, dentists, etc. to join in Ameriplan? I just moved to Hawaii (Big Island) and there are currently only pharmacies involved. I wish I had started with Ameriplan when I was approached in NY and FL. Any insight and information would be appreciated as I am starting from scratch here and it will be 2x the work, Yet, I think it could very well be worth it. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

If you are interested in Ameriplan and want a simple summary, here is the truth: if you become an IBO and there are no providers in your area GO GET THEM TO SIGN UP! If you are the first agent in your area that means you can actually promote the doctor that you would prefer to go to and give others who haven't been seeking care due to lack of funds a way to receive that care!

Ameriplan never claims to accredited. They have an A+ Rating with the BBB. That is a fact. In order to be accredited - you pay to have that! Ameriplan got their A+ Rating solely on Customer Satisfaction - not a buy in for it... That is a major difference!!!

You are misleading people. You NEVER pay for any selling material with Ameriplan. The plans are simple to sell, and the start up cost gets you 5 websites, kept up by the company - a very nice office software program to keep track of ALL your business - and ongoing "Unlimited" training. I have tried at home garbage, and Ameriplan is the only truly genuine one I have found. I have been here just under a year, and have been making a profit since just 2 weeks in the business. It is like everything, the ones who truly "WORK" the business - will make it. The ones you just sit back and expect money to mysteriously fall from the sky - will NOT. The price to start your own business is very reasonable. Plus it's all a tax write off at the end of the year, so as a Broker, you are basically getting FREE healthcare coverage too. I love Ameriplan!!!

Feel free to contact me if you want to learn how we truly operate. 970-876-1981

This is in reply to Norma who posted on 2/1/2014. True, Ameriplan is not accredited with the BBB. And according to the BBB, businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation.
To be accredited by BBB, a business must apply for accreditation and BBB must determine that the business meets BBB accreditation standards, which include a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints. BBB Accredited Businesses must pay a fee for accreditation review/monitoring and for support of BBB services to the public. Also, if you had bothered to look further, the BBB gave Ameriplan A+. Also if you took the time to go directly to their website, and speak to customer service, and ask for a listing of doctors who are on their plan as providers. I did, Ameriplan wasted no time providing that information. I have been looking for so long for something at home, all I have come across are major scams. If it doesn't work out for me, then it doesn't work, I end the website and go on my merry way. Have you, or any of you ever bothered to try it, instead of pointing fingers calling it a scam, have you tried it. Because let me tell you something, I've tried all those scams, especially the ones that claim ITS FREE, NO OUT OF POCKET, then you sign up and WHAM they hit you up major bucks. Right out the door Ameriplan tells you about the fee, I have been out of work since 2009. During that time I was caregiver to my mother who past in 2010 to cancer, my brother who past in 2013 to Progressive MS, and my father who past in 2014 to Alzheimer's. Employers are a little iffy where I am concerned, because I have been out of the workforce for so long. The only thing that I am suited for right now is an aide in a nursing home working for next to nothing, an different shifts. I have a 12 year old daughter, whose going to take care of her.

Oh and Teresa pleas tell me how does not having a profile picture and hundreds of friends make a persons intention questionable? I myself just created this profile not over 30 minutes ago and I only did it so I can comment on this post because my intentions are to call out all the ridiculous (pardon my French, but since we are adults here) shit going on. You've commented I don't know how many times with how many links to your site and repeating the same crap, not only you but others as well. She asked one question to be answered and you provided the same one 10 times. I think she got YOUR point. But picking on somebody trying to what?, point a finger to another user because she has no photo or friends that her intentions and advice or input is not as superior? Your company is a good company to work for fine, but majority of your comments alone with a lot of others on here sound like sales pitches. You're selling your company image to minds of those who are willing to grasp on... Oh and if if makes you feel better here's my link to Facebook I have friends who majority are my real life friends and a lot of pictures. I just don't feel like uploading and adding friends on here

First off I just want to say that this is such a great debate and big issue. I don't work at home nor have I ever tried. I have thought about it because I started out as a very young teen mom, no job, dropped out of high school, ran away from home. You name it I was the rebel child and I liked to party and all that craziness. I wanted to always work from home I saw my aunt do it after having my cousins but because her job provided the software log ins and it was more for medical billing and coding with a company she had already started to work a few years in through commuting. But it was always partial and temp.
I've went through a few pages of comments and this is MY OPINION on not only the topic but the comments as well. Keeping in mind I'm pretty sure I'm the youngest mom on here (24)

I agree with Kirstie, You shouldn't have to pay to work for somebody...BUT I also understand The point that you spend money daily on gas, new work attire, sometimes additional education, for some make up, daycare, etc. so yea it's reasonable you pay the company some chump change (to them). But I think they should not require payment by credit cards/debit cards/auto deduction from routing and checking number. They should except by paypal, or money order. Verified funds that DO NOT allow access to YOUR checking/savings/credit card. - my inner banker speaking.

I agree with Kirstie about the fact that Teresa and these other ridiculous posts with personal websites about the company and promoting with these corny (excuse my language but we ARE all adults here) ass pitches. Seriously thank The Lord I started in sales and work for a bank, because I can pick out the obvious queues. And keep in mind I work at a bank and I SUCK at selling/pitching and for me to vividly point out all the nonsense in some comments amuse me. The woman asked a simple question and she got drowned with all these yes company is great and a freaking Harry potter novel and then BAMB "here sign up to this link" let's STOP right there. Why does she have to click on YOUR link clearly showing YOUR user name? Why can't she just go straight to the normal actual site? I'm curious to know why was it necessary for anybody on here to post all these links to personal business sites that you made for your company you work for? If the company is that great all you have to say is yes it is a short sweet message of why and let her make the decision. Looks as tho there's a lot of pressure like here click me click me!!! Calm down she's read the same information you provided the first 5 comments about how great it is along with all your links.
Sorry had to get that rant out because it is just ridiculous reading through these it's sickening.
People out there are committing fraud by the minute, scamming anybody and everybody, and it's really hard to tell what is real from fake. We wish and dream of a fantasy land. But reality is researching is best and it's going to be tough to weed out the pitches and only promoting for the company to get that fatter check because that's how their income is made. Go with your gut if you have some Money to spare to spend on it try it if it works it works if it doesn't you learn.
But be SMART. AVOID getting your ID Compromised and checking, savings, credit card info as well. MONEY ORDERS or pay pal one time send that way if it's a scam they only got u once and they can't get u again.

I don't know if it helps or not or if it's even too late cause it's 2014 now and this post was waaaaay back. But I just stumbled upon it because I myself am doing research. And NO I'm not going to any more of your guys' websites to try anything because personally I cannot afford to, and like to save my money not waste it on a what if

There are too many other health insurance plans that are better than this. If you want a real business that cost you nothing to sign up, you'll receive your own website for free, and they will pay anyone that signs up $50 dollars, and a $100 dollars for the next 2 people you refer, huge residual income, then go to www.napower.com/656130...

I only worked with Ameriplan for a couple weeks as I didn't believe in the product and heard a lot of bad reviews for the discount programs, but if you chose to go that route I hope you were one of the successful ones. If you are still looking for something to from home and haven't found your niche I can introduce you to a wellness company that offers eco-safe products for your household, anything from cleaning supplies to shampoos and toothpaste for you and the kids. If you'd like more information on the products, or to be my partner, give me a call at (575) 442-2379, email me at thebrockmans05@yahoo.com or learn more at http://www.livetotalwellness.com/thebroc... OR http://www.workathomeunited.com/thebrock... Also if you know of anyone else that has been looking to go green but can't afford those other expensive options I always appreciate referrals! I look forward to speaking with you and your circle of friends!

I researched and this is what I found...they are not accredited and they have a 0/14 on all of their locations! So all you people claiming they are accredited, it would be nice if you looked the site up yourself! bbb.org

I have try Ameriplan back in 2011 didn't make any money bc it is very hard to sell than the cost is high plus you have to pay for all the selling material that you will need so you put in more than you will get out of this company...But however I did find another company call Motor Club of America has been with them for about a year now and the pay is good. The company pay's you $80 for each person you sign up for the membership and they send you clients who is waiting to be help either to Join or Purchase Membership and this company is something like AAA but offer more and the Start up fee is just $39.95 covers your website and all your online training plus material. Here is the link if you want to check it out. www.tvcmatrix.com/valinda and here is my own business website I created and it's free the money is great and you get paid every Friday and I like it because this is not a get rich scam. I am a mother of 4 so I can't afford to put out so much money when I am trying to earn so I know how you feel about taking chance. And this company has been talk about on

I am really confused by Kristie's comments below. I am not sure what she is trying to accomplish or what point she is trying to prove? Yes, I understand that this company is evidently not a tradition "Employer" who hires you to do a job, and simply pay you a salary or hourly wage. However, just because it is not a traditional employer does not mean it is a scam!?! Look at Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, ect. These companies give people the opportunity to run their own business with their name associated with it. They can earn unlimited amounts of money and do have some small amount of start up costs. You also do have to pay for a personal website with the company. Yet they are not scams! I do not work for Ameriplan. I have been curious about the company because I have been doing a lot of research, and that is how I came across these comments. I think it is important for everyone to exercise their right to an opinion, and maybe Kristie could provide us with a list of "real" work at home opportunities, instead of accusing a company of being a scam that she doesn't seem to know anything about. To everyone else, I have appreciated reading your actual experiences with Ameriplan. Thanks!

There's no cold calls, not unless you chose to do so, you can write ads on free classifieds, you can get the 30 leads a day, you have 5 websites if you know how to drive traffic, it's a good opportunity where many moms have quit there jobs, it all depends on how good are you at following instructions, how hard are you willing to work and how much you want it, there are many successful women working this plan and right now you can get 90 days with the highest plan for $90 dollars.

I'm just starting with Ameriplan, show me where you can own a franchise business for the kind of money you are talking about, Kristy, it's called and opportunity and if you believe in yourself and understand business then you wouldn't complain about the cost of starting your own business, where can you start a business for a few fees, a monthly fee, plus you chose the plan or fee level you want to start with, have you looked at how much it costs to have a store anywhere especially in a mall setting. I'm starting at the top level because they have a three month special where I pay $90 for the three months, now the level that I'm at costs $150 a month normally, that's $450 for the three months, if you aren't making it and covering your expenses after 90 days then more than likely you were never going to make it, it take money, effort, a plan, training, and a vision of where you want and need to go but everyone isn't cut out to make as much money as you can make with no ceiling to it, everyone isn't cut out to go as far as their talent will take them and quite frankly some people like economic slavery, getting a hourly wage, making other people rich, this is why so many people work a job, it takes courage to work for yourself, but if you are the kind of person who would rather work 20 hours for yourself than work 8 hours or more for the company or corporation then you need to jump in and join the army of people who would rather be a business owner, the word business owner now that sounds great.

I work for them, the reason you pay is for the different levels of plans they offer you and your family its supplemental insurance. It helps cover major medical vision dental & a lot more like coupons for grocery shopping, car rentals, vacation hotels, restaurant savings, 15% off your cell providers, etc....its a great they train you you also get to claim this on your taxes for using your computer save on your Internet, and more. I make more money doing this job n get to stay home. I worked in health care for 15 years and quit my fulltime 50+ job its a rewarding job to help others save. If interested go to www.freedomathometeam.com/faith fill out application. You have nothing to lose. Happy Holidays!!

I can see where there is some confusion on some of the FACTS so let's educate ourselves....I believe eduction is key and doing research is very important. Transparency is the only way to the truth!

Fact: Ameriplan is not a "paycheck job" the company offers a contract positions as a business owner and there is a HUGE difference between a "job" and having your own business. I agree you should never pay for a "paycheck job".

Fact:To own any business there is overhead like any other "real" business. Franchises like Chick-fil-a or Subway those owners pay a fee to the corporation. As do independent insurance agents for the right to market and sell the products like health, life & auto insurance. Our company is no different.

Fact:The BBB doesn't do it's ratings (A-F) off of anyone paying them. Only the "Accredited" part is a paid for recognition. Check their website it clearly explains this.....we choose not to pay to be accredited and choose to stand on our own good merit. We earned that A+!

Fact: You are right I do make an income through the coaching I do mentoring, sharing my time, skill and knowledge. I have been in the work force a long time and in health care managing others businesses. My education I invest in additional training all of the time financially outside Ameriplan. I want to be able to help others in all aspects of this business. I do deserve to be compensated for my time....I run a business and I give them my best! With that being said it is not my only motivation in my life or our teams motivation. Well all spend time training others..... I spend hours training my team as well as others here on The Freedom At Home Team.....folks I have not enrolled and make no money off of. I run a call for our whole team every Friday all year and any of the 5,000 Independent Business Owners are welcome!

Fact: I do not make any portion of the web site fee only a portion the Broker fee and not even all of it.

I am sorry you feel the way you do Kristie it is evident you feel very strongly.....sounds like maybe you had a bad experience some where along the road?

Anyone who knows me or my heart knows I operate with integrity. My intention is to help as many people as I can. People need to work unemployment rate went up a bit in November to 7.3 percent the truth is there are not enough "paycheck jobs" out there for everyone needing to work. Folks also deserve health care as well.....there are still in the neighborhood of 48 million Americans without health care coverage (that was the Sept 2013 est). Remember I came from the health care field and helping others is my heart. Giving back is key to success in life!

I hope you all have a blessed day!

My true intention is to warn people against scam artists who true's intention is to get them to sign up under them so they can make money off of them. Again, as I stated before, no one should have to pay anything out of pocket if they are supposed to be getting paid to do a job. Anyone can have a good score on the BBB if they pay enough. If its a real job and not a pyramid scheme then the company would pay for the website and everything else. I dont have to have a picture on here. I'm not trying to convince people to sign up under me so I can make a profit off of them. The "fact" is that Teresa make money off of every person who signs up because the companyshe works for makes money off of the website fees and startup fees or training fees or whatever fees they con people to pay. If you weren't out to make money then you would just simply tell everyone the company name, not your own personal link. Sorry Teresa, but I think its evident to most that your real job is to go on sites looking for people who are desperate for a legitimate work from home job and think because your a mom you have there best interest at heart.

Hi Moms,

Sorry to hear Kristie's comment sometimes I wonder when a person posts here with on just this subject and no friends or photos what their true intentions are...hmmmm I wonder?

Just to clear up a few things...I have work with Ameriplan for 5 years. However, my experience with this company did not start there I used to work in a dental office for 7 1/2 yrs that took the Dental Plus Plan. Our patients in that office were saving money on dental services they needed and deserved every day! As well as vision, prescription and much more!

I am passionate about health care and helping people!! What I have found that some people who post here...well they may not "know what they don't know" as the saying goes. We do not pay to work with Ameriplan.....I need benefits for my entire family and I pay a small amount compared to what I used to in a "paycheck job" $49.95 for the dental and medical together for my whole family. That's it! I also don't want to mess with designing and hosting my own web site and I need them since I work from home online so the company does it for us 5 web site actually for $19.95 per year...that's all 5 sites I use for marketing. So you see I am not paying to work that's silly and if it was a scam we would not be in business for 21yrs and be recognized by the BBB with an A+ rating. On top of the articles and news shows like American Medical Review with Morley Safer (he's from 60 minutes) and Good Morning America. You can check out the BBB link here https://www.workathomecareeroptions.com just click on the BBB logo, then WATCH some of the news stories there as well.

I believe in transparency and facts doing your research is so important. I have a "check off list" on my profile of things to look for when looking to work from home I hope it helps no matter what you are look at.

God Bless....

Any company that asks you to pay money to work for them is a scam. If its such a great and credible company why are they having there "employees" pay to work for them? An employer pays you. Not the other way around. They make there money by getting people to sign up. Its a pyramid scheme. When you don't make any money its because your not "coachable" or didn't work hard enough. Thats complete crap. The only people making money are the ones getting other people to sign up under them. Its a pyramid scheme. Don't waste your time or money. These scam artists are just preying upon people who are looking for real work at home opportunities. Another thing I love to read is how you will make tons of money. Really? If its that easy why doesnt everyone just quit there jobs and work online? Sorry, just hate to see people getting taken advantage of. Back to my original point. A job pays you to work. Not the other way around. If you have to pay, then run far away. Its a scam.

If you see this, leave this form field blank.
