I am an independent associate for Prepaid Legal Services Inc a company that has been around since 1972 went public on the NYSE in 1976 and just got bought by a huge wall street firm- MidOcean Partners for 650 million June 30, 2011, the company is about to get commercials ect towards the branding up until now the company did 500+million per year with no advertising just word of mouth now with the new owners it is about to explode! It is something everyone needs, everyone can afford, but not everyone has! I have a home based (e-commerce) business that I absolutely LOVE and it allows me to be at home with the children! I work my hours around my children and their schedules, get paid what I am worth, and the business is growing very strong in this economy!

Hey there Erica I know you must be really stressed with everything that has happened I am so sorry that that has happened to you. I am a Marine wife and mother of 2 and we had gotten ourselves in some debt and I really needed to bring in a income. Well I found a home based business opportunity that didn't have me selling products or doing parties ( That is something I just didn't want to do) All I do is set up memberships for families to shop for things they buy like laundry detergent, tooth paste, shampoo etc. for less it is fun and rewarding. The most important thing when looking for ANY "Work at Home " anything is to first see it they are a 5 Pillar Company. If they aren't it doesn't matter if it's free to start or not. I read your story (and, I'm sure the story of thousands of others)...and I hope that you've found your new career. If not, can I offer some advise?
If you are looking to work from home...I think there are 2 main things to ask yourself.
Do I want to work for myself? Or do I want to ahve a boss and simply work feom home? So, ultimately, the ral question is...do you want to start a new job for personal security and financial freedom and use this obstacle as a opportunity for yourself and your family or do you want to focus on paying the bills (both of which are good and right things to do).
If the answer is....I want to build a new life!!! Then I strongly encourage you to look into the BUSINESSES of all of the home-based/network marketing businesses. (Cause,network marketing is what we all do...and what women do best!!!)
Do you want to be completely on your own? Or join a group for support and ideas?
Do you want to like the product (even if the product is selling your advise) or do you want to be passionate about the cause?
Unless you're thinking about selling cars...all of us in home-based businesses sell something...but is the sale the end...or is there more (changing lives, enriching our communities, offering hope)?
Just some thoughts...because right now...in your hands, if you're willing, you have an amazing opportunity to CREATE a new and fabulous life!!

I was in a similar situation 2 years ago. I always wanted to work from home since my daughter was born and looked but didn't find what I wanted to do. She's 8 now and my son is 6 along with my step son who's 22 in college. So while I was still unemployed, I was introduced to a company by one of the moms from preschool. I thank her almost everyday for introducing me to this company. It is everything I was looking for and more! Not only was I able to start my own business, but I save money shopping for my everyday household items and when you're on unemployment every dollar saved helps out. And there is absolutely no risk with this company. I've tried Tupperware and thought about selling Arbonne, but those are items people don't use every day and buy every month. I am sorry to hear about your job loss. My family and I have not been affected by the down economy as some and I am so thankful for that. I recently started a work at home business that I am happy to say will soon allow me to quit my 8-5. I understand what you are saying about not having the "start up kit" money. I had looked into selling Mary Kay and I just didn't have the money to buy the start up kit and carry an inventory. I have also tried Creative Memories in the past and I ended up with a lot of debt. Hi Erica,

I understand the stress you are under right now. I think a lot of folks are in the same boat. I think more than anything it is important for you to find something that you can have a passion for because if you love the product then it will sell itself. Most companies have a start up fee, but look at it in the big picture. If you were to go out an start a business on your own you would have HUGE start up cost. That is the great thing about being apart of a direct sales company. You are in business for yourself, but not by yourself. The corporation takes the BIG risk and you become part of a team that has been doing it for awhile and can tell you what works and what doesn't work. When I looked at opening a retail wine store it was going to cost me $250,000 and over 40 hours of my time per week. With WineShop At Home I was able to get into the wine business for only $99...no inventory, no bricks and mortar to pay for and I have lots of time for my family. For me this was the perfect fit. Hi Erica. If you are looking at any business opportunity it is never free. There is always a start up cost, but well worth it. Most business opportunities are all about the right timing and the right product. I just recently started my own business and I love it.
