Hi guys, I have a new high schooler and I think I am more scared for my daughter than she is. What do I say to the sudden invites to teen parties and after school hanging out without hurting her feelings. And OMG the boys that think they are grown with the conversations they present to her. She is very beautiful so there will be some type of something.

I totally agree with Tricia. I have a 13 yr old girl. She goes to partys and hangs out with friends. We talk daily and I listen. By listening you find out a lot about their peers. I also meet the children and their parents, before I let her hang out with anyone. She complains because I am the only parent in her group that does that. I have had children spend the night at my house and their parents weren't even interested in meeting me (unreal). Let your child know your expectations and you will have to trust that they make good decisions when you are not around. I know it is hard to let them hang out with friends but we want them to be happy and social.

At this age you need to put some trust into your daughter. You also need to keep the lines of communication very open. I am on the other side as I have a 15yr old boy starting HS this year. We talk every day and I meet not only his friends but also their parents. In regards to party's and other invites, I also ask 21 questions and he can't go until I know the answer and I meet the parents in charge...
