Hi, I work full time night shift and really struggle to cope with work, family, housework chores etc. I need to work nightshift to work in with childcare as my husband also works shifts. How does everyone else manage. I have a 5 year old and 3 year old.

I used to work nightshift when nursing and my children had a childminder for a few years. As far as chores etc there are only so many hours in a day, you can only do so much, what is important is to share the chores, delegate some to your husband that he could do when the children are in bed, they are after all both your children and it is both your house so you should try and work out what you can do within the constraints of the day between you.

i did that for almost 6y. my son is now 7 and its hard. my family watched him at night and i only slept when he took a nap. After a while it felt normal not getting sleep. we had our second child and i went to days. So much better. I work when dads at home and he works when im home. it works so much better and everyone gets sleep. my days off i cleaned and got everything done i needed to.

I worked midnights for several years both me and my husband. I am now on afternoons, going in anywhere from noon until 4:00 and getting off anywhere from 8:30 pm until midnight. My husband still works midnights so I get home and he heads to work. It is extremely tough on the marriage more than anything. I have a 7 yr old and a 3 yr old. I do the same I do a LOT of crock pot recipes or even just slow cooking in the oven. My 7 yr old has a list of "chores" that he has to do everyday, nothing real time consuming but just little things that I dont have to worry about then. He gets rewards for doing these each day as well so he doesnt really look at it as a "chore". It is certainly not easy any day.
