My youngest daughter is now nearly 5 and still sucks her thumb day and night. Anyone have any ideas on how to stop her. Have tried putting plasters on during the day but no longer works

My daughter sucked her thumb until she was about 5. I just kept taking her thumb out of her mouth and explained that her thumb isn't always clean and she could get sick from all the germs she's putting in her mouth. I even did a google image search and showed her what a germ looks like...she very rarely sucked her thumb after that and I just reminded her about it everytime I saw her doing it. I also let her pick out a new blanket to sleep with. She, of course, started sucking on that at night but I figured it was better that the thumb. She's almost 9 now and I haven't seen her thumb in her mouth in 2 1/2 years...

My oldest son sucked his thumb until he was 7. We had tried everything. The thing that finally worked was when his friends at school started giving him a hard time. Just let her have it...eventually she will be forced to give it up. If not, let her husband worry about it. That's what his doctor told me. All kids need something to cling to, she'll be okay I promise. My son is now 10 and doesn't even remember that he used to do it.

Have you tried Thum? It's really digusting to taste. You paint it on your kid's finger like nail polish - I think it's for nail biters, but we're using it for my DD and she hates it. Less thumb sucking in just 2 days.

Take her to the dentist they will put something on the roof of her mouth that pinches her thumb and it will be uncomfortable for her to suck her thumb.

My mother covered my thumb in something disgusting every night for a week. I cried bloody murder, but it finally worked.
