Aussie mums? What are your thoughts on childcare centres vs day care?

My 18mth old daughter goes to family day care 4 d/wk, I'm going to be working 5 days next week & I'm thinking of making the 5th day a daycare centre day to do pre-school type activities to prepare her for school instead of pre-school. How have you arrange your child's care while you're at work, what works for you?

thanks guys, great info. my daughter is very settled in family daycare, with just the 3-4 other kids, she loves it there. I was thinking of making her 5th day a day care centre day to stimulate her more & prep for school. She has enjoyed her times going to the day care centres where her usual daycare mum is away. Yes they do provide great nutrious food & the play areas are excellent, as well as art & craft & singing etc. Bella loves playing with books & being read too as well at home & in care. Learning other languages sounds interesting Jennifer. Good to know there are some Aussie mums on this site. thanks girls

Hi,
I'm a New South Wales Mum & my children go to family daycare, but I must admit their grandmother is the carer. My eldest daughter is turning 4 next year and will be going to pre-school & home daycare combined, only so she will learn to listen to another adult whom isn't related to her & give her a circle of friends still will probably go through school with. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer, it's whatever your more comfortable with & can afford to do.

Hi, Im Jennifer. We live in Sydney and I have a 10 week old baby girl, Saoirse (Seer-sha). We've got her booked in for long day care as at January for 2 days a week. The centre is lovely and is geared for a variety of educational stimulants. They do languages, reading and many other an activity that general day care has. Unfortunately I will need to return to work earlier than expected but I think the routine and social integration will be a very positive move. Good luck with your choice - sounds as though you're on the right track!

Hi Trish, I'm a Victoria mum and have my little man in daycare. I inspected the family daycare places around our area but there were a few hygiene issues and lack of educational type activities so decided to go with daycare and LOVE it!! My bub has been going since 8 months and has advanced so quickly with everything - sometimes a little too much as he is now sooooo independent!!! If your bub is a lover of routines then she will love daycare - my bub eats and sleeps so well at daycare now that he isn't in the little bubs room and they have a strict routine in his room which he loves!!
I also find the food at daycare is fantastic and highly nutritious which he prefers to eat over my food some time!! Good luck!!

Hi trish I'm a Queensland mumma, good to see a few Aussies popping up. Both my children are in daycare, but I acctually work at the same centre, not in with either if them thou. I find day care to he great as they has many educational activities for all age groups, and all provide the best quality care
