School started for us last week and our routines are already a mess!

My kids move like molasses in the morning and it takes every bit of my energy to get everyone out the door. After school isn’t any better. Getting them to do their homework is already a battle.

Help! Any suggestions?

We ahve to be at school by 8:00. I try to get there by 7:30-7:45 so my son doesn't have to rush when he first gets to school. I find, if I get up at 5:00 that gives me enough time to eat, have a morning devotional(with coffee), and time to get myself ready. By 6:30 I am getting lunches and breakfasts together and at 7:00 I get my son up. Sometimes, he gets up no prob but other times I have to physically get him moving. NOw 5:00 am may seem pretty early to you, but if I don't feel rushed then the morning seems to flow better. BTW, we eat breakfast on the way to school. I take him to school so we have time to eat, and get emotionally and spiritually ready for the day ( we do a "Good morning God" prayer on the way. This seems to work for us. Now when the baby's born, I may be back for some advice myself!

I have the same problem as you and a friend of mine has suggested using an alarm or a timer, ie. 15mins to get dressed and the one who manages it before the timer goes off gets a treat after school. She also sets her alarm to go off at the time when they need to leave the house and the children (she has 6) respond to this by running out of the house. I will be trying this this week.

Good luck !!!
