Constipation, I think...

My daughter is almost 8 months old. She gets 4-5 formula feedings and 3 solid food feedings a day. I have just introduced apples, which could be the cause but for the past week she grunts and moans and turns bright red while trying to poop. I feel so bad for her, I feel like she is in pain. Any suggestions?

Pureed prunes work wonders. Gerber has an apple prune juice my kids love and helps them poop like you wouldn't believe. My two are 14mos, they split a 4 oz bottle and their half gets cut 50/50 with water. BTW banana can constipate and so can the iron in the formula.

My daughter got really constipated when she first started eating pureed fruits and veggies. I felt so bad for her. I tried everything, giving her water, prune juice, activity, belly massage, warm bath, EVERYTHING!! So finally I called her pediatrician and he said to give her a teaspoon of Karo syrup. Sure enough it cleaned her out and shortly after that her system regulated and we haven't had an issue since.

you could try mixing an ounce of baby prune juice and mix with with 2 ounces of luke warm water...it helped my son big time. Then as he got older I upped the prune juice and lessened the water

If your child is constipated you can get this powder stuff called Milk Sugar and you use a teaspoon for every 4 oz of liquids! It really works, and it's all natural!

We had a bad experience with constipation when my son was around 9 months old. He would go stiff as a board when he was trying to go and there were times I had to help ease it out. Yuck! We gave him diluted prune juice and pureed prunes. Also, grapes and raisins are very high in fiber and are supposed to help get things moving. We also tried a stool softener, docusate sodium, in liquid form and added that to his bottles. My mother suggested an old remedy of putting corn syrup in his bottles. Good luck!

You could give her a little bit of water, also my kids doc would have me put a teaspoon on miralax in there formula if they got a little backed up. Check with your doc first though. But I would try the water first.
