Do you know any moms in the area who have their children in daycare? If so, they should be able to provide you with info about how good/bad the daycare are. Make sure you go and visit each of the potential daycares with your bub to get a feel for the place and to ensure they have the appropriate safety regulations, etc. Check to see if they have an orientation program also - my daycare allowed me to put our son in for 2 hours each week for the 4 weeks leading up to me returning to work - it allowed him to get used to the other babies and the carers and allowed me to feel a little more comfortable with the whole idea! Good luck!

In CA there is 4C's, each county has a location to call. They can give you a list of childcare providers, they also can check if you quality for help with the cost of childcare. In CA childcare providers are obligated to give you a copy of any complaints or violations within the last year or so. Make sure you ask for it.

There should be a site on your state website that lists daycares in the area and their rating. From there, I would call to see if they have an opening for a child your age. I would also visit all of the daycares that do have an opening before making a decision. Price is important but this may be one area where "you get what you pay for". Good Luck!!

Depending on what state you live in, there are state run agencys that help parents find reliable and safe daycares. In Pa we have an agency called CCIS (child care information service) They help you find daycare and also help with subsidies if you qualify. When you find one you like, ask LOTS of questions!. Look at the facility, in depth, Talk to parents of the kids there, and bottom line... trust your gut instinct! If something doesn't look right or feel right, run!
