Do you get in-home daycare provider a Christmas Gift? If so, what?

My 21 month old goes to an in-home daycare with only 2 other kids who are there part time. Last year at Christmas time, she was being watched by my mother. Do any of you other moms get gifts or anything special for a teacher, nanny, or daycare provider at Christmas?

I am an in home care provider and i just wanted to share my experiance with you...for the most part each of the children i care for do give me something for a gift. it varies depending on what the families can afford (sometimes i get gift cards to restaurants, a box of chocolate, picture frames) and for families that may not be able to afford the extra gift i often get a card with a picture of the child(ren) that i am looking after - which i love getting!!). i certainly don't expect anything but it's nice to be thought of. *and i do buy each of the children a gift and send a card to each family*

I have been a childcare provider now for over 20 years. I had a parent that for the years i watched her two children she gave me a $100.00 bonus each year. Made me feel like I was worth it. I have other parents that get me evening out gifts, movies, restaurants, etc. I feel it makes me feel appreciated for the time and love I give your child when you are working.

YES - they watch your child for up to 11 hours a day, play with them, teach them, kiss their boo-boos, change diapers and so much more when you can not be there. You tip a waitress 15% or more of the bill for an hour in a restaurant why would you not give them something? Believe me they will most like something like a gift card that they can spend on themselves... please let them know during this time of year that you greatly appreciate everything they do for you everyday of the week!

I would do something for the provider. I mean really, they keep your most prized possesion. So just as an "I appreciate all you do for me" I would. Gift cards to Wal-mart are good because you know they shop there.

Yes you should give! It's not a gift - it should be a bonus.
If you wouldn't give them a bonus - then they should nt be watching your children!

I feel bad that have never received a gift. Those are ungrateful people for all you do.

Would you say it's the thought that counts if it was a business job and your boss didn't give out bonuses and gave you some crap cookies - heck no!

I watch children too -
And when my child was in daycare I gave $50 and wished I could have given more.
This is the person who watches your prized possion everyday!!! You pay a small daily amount - not even close to minimum wage!
Come on people - do not give a photo or something the child made! They see you child more than you do! They see there art work more than you do!
Give them a cash bonus! This is their freaking low paid - highest responsibility job ever!!!

I've always found it to be greatly appreciated no matter what the value. The thought is what matters.

I usually send in a gift card so they have a night out on the town. But if I am a little short on cash then I usually do a small bath and body basket.

I am a dayhome provider and I have never received an actual christmas gift in 5 yrs but small tokens of appreciation through out the year! and I have a child in school and we make sure to give his teachers even piano teacher or gymnastics teacher atleast a christmas card he's made! It makes people feel appreciated and thought about.

Hi,
I think if you want to give a gift - you should. Don't do it cause its a norm or because someone else is.
Christmas is a time for giving - if you don't really want to then .......
I try to give everyone a gift even it cost only a little - its the thought that counts. And everyone loves getting a gift. It makes them feel special..
That's only one opinion though - hope it helps. : )

My children got to an in-home care giver who watches two other kids part time. My kids go to her about 30 hours a week. Last year I gave her $100. This year I bought her a Kindle. I think it depends on how often your child is watched by her when figuring out what to get her. I think it is nice to give a gift to show your appreciation.

I used to work fot a daycare and because there were so many that worked there many of the parents would bring us boxes of candy or hot chocolate. Some would make gift bags for those who worked in a specific room with their child. It was always appriciated no matter how small it was because it showed us that the parents did notice our hard work.

I always get my kids' teachers a gift. Usually it's an ornament or a gift card.

I figure she deserves at least what a waitress would get. So, I tend to giver her a gift worth at least 20% of what I pay her for a week of daycare. I also get her a birthday gift. She also gives my son a christmas and a birthday gift.

We do Christmas gifts for my sons teacher. They are an important part of my son's life and as a mom I want to know how much I appreciate everything they do on a daily basis. Usually we give a gift card.

I think it's not a bad idea! Just base it on your relationship with the daycare provider or your child's. A gift card should be fine!

I used to get gift cards, bath sets, sometimes along with homemade treats. something small and simple. I know some people who give money, I personally could never afford that.
