I have a 5 month old daughter - my husband has his mind SET on her getting her ears pierced and he wants it done while she's a baby because he thinks that she won't remember it that way..... Mine were pierced when I was about 5 or so and I actually remember being carried out of the store screaming my head off after I got my ears pierced..... when did you all get your daughter's ears pierced?????

hi my first daughter was 7 wks old when she had her ears pierced, she cryed for a few seconds she is now 11 and my other daughter was 3mths old i think the earlier the better, they ddnt mess with them ,if they was older they prob wud of, at the end of the day if they didnt like them as they got older they can simpley take them out.iam glad i had them done and so is both of my daughters :-)

My daughter was 1 year old when her ears were pierced. She cried for a couple of seconds (like with normal needles) & then she was looking at herself in the mirror! They were pink & she loved them. Never any probs with infection etc...as we followed the standard procedure to keep them clean. My daughter doesnt remember them getting done & she is now 4 years old. I guess its a personal choice, but you both need to agree :-)

Personally, I want my daughter to choose to have it done when she is older, and to remember the pain. If she thinks it's quick, easy, and painless she may decide to pierce other parts of her body. If she remembers the pain, she may decide to opt out of the piercing body parts fad.

I was 12 when I got mine pierced, and when I think about a baby having their ears pierced, I think about how uncomfortable it is to lay down and have the earrings poke me in the side of my head (I can't sleep with earrings in). I would wait until she wants to get her ears pierced if I were you.... just my thoughts.

I am actually with Mandi on this issue. I understand it is a personal choice whether you have your daughter's ears pierced, but my daughter (3 months old now) will be given this choice when or if she wants it done. I got mine done when I was 13, and it was quite an occasion of significance for me - so much so, it barely hurt.

Keep in mind that babies will not know they are there, and should she be moving about or have an ear infection, she might pull at her ears, causing more pain, more infection, more misery. Good luck with this decision!

Not sure if you want to hear someone who isn't for it, but i am going to put my two cents in anyway! I think getting something pierced is a decision for when the person is old enough to make it for themselves - something like circumcision is either medical or religious. Many of my friends had their girls ears pierced when they were really small and they have had no problems with it but it seems to me like doing a cosmetic procedure and they certainly aren't old enough to look after it. I remember desperately wanting mine done as an 8 year old and yes it did sting, but I was big enough to decide I wanted it - it's not like picking a dress out, the piercing is more permanent than that - I still have the scars on my ears even though i no longer wear earrings after an infection as an adult!

Sorry, if this is a negative post, but I thought the other side should also be voiced as your daughter is not yet old enough to decide if she wants it. If it is seen as traumatic enough to try and sneak it in when she won't remember, then perhaps it is an important enough decision that she can make when she is big enough to decide a little pain is worth it.

Good luck with your decision.
