my son is 5 months old. we've been giving rice and oatmeal cereal since he was 4 months. for the past 2 weeks we've been giving fruits and veggies. he gets about 3 tbsp oatmeal and 1/2 jar twice a day. for the past 3-4 days, he's been acting like he wants more and he kinda 'lunges' for the spoon. how much should i give at a time? should he get a whole jar instead of 1/2?

Feed him until he's full.... your baby will let you know when he's had enough by, usually, turning away.

Babies don't eat for pleasure like adults do. Babies eat because they are hungry. Feed him until he refuses any more, such as turning his head away from the spoon.

ok thank you. he really likes the oatmeal. i mix it with his formula & he really likes the flavor. i guess i'll start giving more of the food instead of more oatmeal. he gets more oatmeal than food, so we'll switch it up! thanks for your help

We started feeding our daughter fruits and veggies in addition to rice cereal at 4 months. She usually has rice cereal and a fruit for breakfast or just fruit and then we feed her veggies at lunch and dinner, we feed her till shes full and stops showing interest depending on the day she will eat a whole stage 1 container or sometimes half or even just a few bites it all varies we just go with the flow and let her dictate how much she wants or doesnt want

I have a 5 month old that has been eating fruits and veggies for about 3 weeks for breakfast and dinner. She gets rice cereal in her bottle for lunch and before she goes to bed. As far as how much, I feed her until she doesn't want anymore. Sometimes it's only a couple of spoons, sometimes it's most of a jar. I let her decide how much she wants.

I agree with Jennifer 100%. The more exposure he gets to REAL food now the better eater he'll be for life. Cut out the cereal and full him full of great nutrients!

id say feed him till he is full. babies will show signs they are done when they do not want anymore. and FYI, cereal is not even necessary. it has almost no nutritional value and if you have ever tasted it, it tastes like paper.
