Jay, my 7 month old, was up all night with an upset stomach. We are trying to switch him to formula during the day because I'm not pumping enough. Soy formula didn't give him gas, but after two weeks he started throwing it up. Dr. said to stop soy. I don't think he is allergic to dairy because I eat tons and he doesn't have gas with my breast milk. Gentlease is a little better, but he is still fussier than with breast milk. Any ideas?

Hi Dayna - Do you have enough store to do half breastmilk half formula until he adjusts? I could never pump enough either so we transitioned onto formula this way and it seemed to ease the transition.

My daughter had this problem and was on soy. We started giving her gas drops in her bottle and that really helped with the problem. We didn't do it long and her little body adjusted well from there.

I had a lot of problem when I switched to formula. I started on just the regular Similac brand, but she was fussy and constantly spitting it up. The doctor suggested soy, that gave her constipation. Then Nestle Good start, which gave her cholic. Finally, the doctor said switch to similac Alimentum. Its really expensive, but by the time I switched to it, she was screaming and crying for nearly 8 hours straight. I gave her one bottle, she passed out at about 6 in the evening, woke up the next morning and was a completely different baby. Happy, smiling, no more crying bouts. That was around 5 months old. She's almost 11 months now, and I've just switched her down to Similac Sensitive, she's on all kinds of solids, and has no problems whatsoever.

Like I said, it is expensive, but for me, it was definitely worth it.

I had to do the same thing when I didn't pump enough. I started with Nestle Good Start, but it caused a lot of constipation. Then I put him on Gentlease which was much better. Held off on solids a bit until his stools were softer. I still have to put 1tbs on prune juice with his morning bottle to keep stools soft. He spit up for and had trouble for about a month and then he adjusted well. I also had to do the I love you colic massage every day after his warm bath. You can google the massage for directions. Good Luck!

I am not sure what brand name you are using but we were using Enfamil and we had nothing but gas, fussiness and alot of crankiness. We switched to Good Start and we had a completely different baby. She went from in pain and crying to happy and smiling all the time. We tried GentleEase as well and it didn't help. Good luck. I know it can be frustrating seeing your little one goes through these discomforts.
