Hi Amy, so sorry to hear about the loss of your job. Unfortunately that is the story for alot of people lately. I have been working from home with a fabulous company for the past two years. They are a legit company that has been around for 25 years and have won several Better Business Awards. What I love about it is I do not have to sell products or carry any inventory and there is no large investment to get started. There is an awesome team support system in place to train and mentor you. I used to do Avon and I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off and made no money and was left to learn on my own. Sorry to hear about the recent loss of your job. Know that it is not the end of the world. I just quit my job as a teacher, but my heart bleeds for the teachers who lose their jobs. I would say that the most natural thing for you to do is to teach. Figure out what you really enjoy doing (what would you do even if you didn't get paid for it) and create a business from that. You could tutor children in your home, their home or the library. I ran my tutoring business and my selling point to the parents was that I employed current and former teachers. Parents loved hearing that. You could hold a class teaching arts and crafts, a language, whatever. Try to first sign on with a community center and local program which would be responsible for advertising at first.

If you want to get into sales, find a product that you love and sell it. I have sold Avon, Quixtar, and Brown Bag Party. Each have their own positives and negatives but I would research all the direct selling businesses they have out there and find one you like.

One last thing. Find something in your community that is lacking and fill the void. Good luck.

Definatly do something that you will love. If you love it you can make money at it. Candles, jewelry, nutrition, bags, green supplies, blog, dogs, kids, aerobic classes. If you enjoy working out you can usually get certified to do a group excercise class free. The gym often pays for it. If you like people selling is great. You could do home daycare with circle time. Teaching letters and numbers in your own home with your child. Check state laws but I know in VA you can have up to 6 kids without having to be a certified day care. You can teach online as well. It's a new concept but they pay for your internet access, give you a lap top, and you only work a couple hours online a day. My sister just quit her job as a 4th grade teacher to do it online. There are alot of opportunities. Take this as a chance to get paid doing things you love to do.

Now is a great time to review your tallents. I life coach many people in similar situations and are amazed at what they go onto do. Look first at your tallents, strengths, what do you like doing (eg walking dogs, looking after kids, washing & cleaning??) start making a list, you would be amazed at what you are good at and what you like. Then start investigating those ideas. Dont panic, just look around at what you do have (not what you dont) and what you can convert into money. Marketing tips are all over the internet (how to be found once you have your ideas) and then go for it.
Maybe a great time for a seachange??

Hi Amy, sorry about what happen I know how hard it d it is these days to have a cut in income. I been doing it basically alone and let me tell you is very hard. I have a almost 5 yrs old and a 18 yr both girls and even that the 18 you can say is adult she will always be my girl. She is great help but still the hole picture of the house expenses are on me. I have done all kinds of side jobs to make additional money cash and some good some just a waste however I found passion parties and of course at first I was thinking I not good at that, but let me tell you that thanks to passion parties I not only make 40% comision but I been able to help other women and couples with their romance, beleived or not these days with the hard times the love and romance gets put away and to the side and then the worse come divorce and specially wen the income is not enough. You can still be home with your family, decide when you want to do the demos of the products, is all for women and 40% is your commision. You have nothing to loose but a lot to gain. What do you teach? I have a friend who does online tutoring via Skype (French and English, I believe). Mary Kay has great products, a great philosophy and 40% commission. Startup cost: $100. It was started by a stay at home mom.
What about babysitting some other kids?
