I'm at my wits end! My almost 4 year old daughter refuses to poop! she holds it in for days and days until i either give her something (a sepository) to get it to come out. I've given her laxatives and plenty of foods that will help soften the stools. no luck. she still holds it in. She's miserable! I've asked her why she doesn't want to poop and she just says she doesn't want to. I'll put her on the potty and wait and she just cries the whole time.

Has anyone else experienced this? The Dr.s have just said to give her something that makes her stools soft, but it doesn't work!!!! ahhhh!

Have you tried a little prune juice each day.... my son would only have one bowel movement every 3 days up until he was 3 1/2 months old.... we started giving him 4 ounces a day of the gerber apple prune juice, watered down to about 8 ounces and now we could time our watches by him.

my daughter went through this for a period of time as well. We found a schedule helped along with a really desired reward. It's a control thing. I removed as many of the power struggles over other things as possible, gave her other things to be in charge of, then daily at the same time each day required her to sit and try. With success was a nice reward. She soon found other things she prefered over holding it!

My daughter is going on 3 and refuses to go #2 in the potty also! It is so frustrating. As far as getting your daughter to go have you tried Miralax? You can buy it in walmart, cvs, walgreens, etc. We give our daughter a cap full about every other day and she can't help but go. We also give her cows milk from the parlor, and of course every food the Dr. always say help. Has your dr. checked to see if she is backed up at all? Our daughter was refusing to go and would have so much gunk built up she was in pain. They checked with a simple x-ray. It is so frustrating that I can't convince her to go without the help of Miralax, but it works and it is completely safe, no side effects. Good Luck

I have 2 daughters but sorry I never had that problem with them. Maybe I can help you. Bribe her with her favorite treat if she goes no#2 for you. It may not work the first few times but keep trying. If she does not do it then let her know that she gets no treat. [ and stick to it ] no matter how much she crys. I do understand that it's hard to listen to your child cry, but please give it afew days and see what happens. The worst thing would be her not doing it.I hpoe this helps you.
