How do I get my 3 yearold to settle down enough to go to bed and go to sleep before 1130 pm ???

Routine, routine, routine.
My goal for bedtime for my 6 and 3 year old boys is 8pm.
I tell them 7:30 is bedtime. At 7 we begin doing some sort of calming activity, colouring, watching a show, something like that. Tell him bedtime is in half an hour (he probably doesnt know what half an hour is so show him on the clock). When the activity is done, and I usually give them my undivided attention at this time, tell them it is bed time, we need to go get our jammies on, brush our teeth and snuggle in to read a bedtime story. We actually went out and bought our boys spiderman lamps/nightlight that they are allowed to leave on if they go to bed easily. Not sure if this will work for you but it did for me. When I was on my year off work I would let the kids stay up real late with not much routine, but I had to do something when I went back to work and had to wake them early for daycare. Good luck, and if it doesn't work right away, it'll be easier to reason with him as he gets older.

I have a 2.5 year old with similar problem. I established a routine that seems to be working. You will deal with tantrums until they get used to the routine but don't give in. I take away TV at 8 then give her a bath. We read a book or 2 then snuggle in her bed til she falls asleep. 9:30 last night yeah

I have tried not givng her a nap and she still does not settle down, Ive tried books, movies, coloring, snacks, routines im still tring. I started her in preshool to see if it helps. She was in private care I think there was just not enough stimulation for her to be tired, not enough brain power used all day. I hope pre school helps.

What time does your 3 year old wake up from their last nap? My 2 yr old takes one nap a day and is generally up around 2:00pm. After supper we have a bath, then quiet play, and around 8 we read 2 books and have a cup of milk. This is a routine that we do every night. I know my child strives for routine. Do you have a bedtime routine?

I have a soon to be 5 year old and soon to be 3 year old- and what we do is that they are allowed to watch one of their shows-- Arthur, Lilo & Stitch, etc. The rule is when they are watching they have to lay on the couch with their blanket and pillows and relax. Once the show is done, and sometimes they do not last the whole show... but once it is done- they go up to bed. They are usually both asleep by 9 pm-- especially when they go to school.
