I am 28 and have a 7 month old son who was exclusively breastfed for 6 months. At 6 months I started solids and introduced formula and now I am only breastfeeding at night and at the 7am feed but still no period. Do I have to stop breastfeeding completely in order for my period to return and fall pregnant?

You may not need to wean, many women get pregnant without ever having a perior or while still BFing. I have 3 children and the last 2 were both conceived WHILE BFing the previous child. I was also pregnant in between 2 & 3, but miscarried. So, I've managed to get PG 3 times while BFing. Personally I wouldn't deny my baby breastmilk just to conceive again. Especially a child under the age of 1.

Perhaps. Or maybe when you are down to one feed a day. It just depends on your own body. Even after you stop breastfeeding, it may take a while for your period to come back. By the way. I was breastfeeding once/twice a day when I got pregnant again. So it can happen!

You can get pregnant ANYTIME, nursing has nothing to do with it. If your son wants to nurse at night, I'd say let him, I did that for 2 years with my daughter. You don't need your period to get pregnant again if that's what you want. There's really no telling when your period will return, but serioulsy you CAN get pregnant even if you don't have it.

I guess the best thing would be to buy an ovulation pack or thermometer to see when I'm
Ovulating and continue Breastfeeding .. Both my baby ' I enjoy it so why give up a good thing right?! Thanks for your help!

No, no, no...you're definitely not breastfeeding enough to protect against pregnancy...it may take a while for your period to return, but remember you'll ovulate first so can get pregnant before ever having your period again...

No, you don't need to stop breastfeeding. It's sort of luck-of-the-draw about when you'll get your periods back, but the older he gets, the better your chances. However, you could get pregnant before you get your period, if you catch the first egg out of the gate!

I still bf about as much as you do and eventually started getting my period again at about 13 months. If you stop, it will probably happen faster.
