I am a single mother with a full time job. I am very rarely home. Long enuff to feed, bath and put to bed. I have five children and currently live in a three story low-income houseing. You most know, they do inspections, (witch I totally dont think is fair. I think that is violating privacy). Anyway, I love a clean house. I am very nurvous and easily annoyed by any cludder. And my house is always messy. I can not for the life of me keep it clean. By the time I clean one room, they mess up another. I have given them all chores, but there are days when they just wont lift a finger. No matter what I do. I have taken things away, I have given them things, I am out of ideas on how to keep my house more clean and organized.. Is there any suggestions?

So, am I not the only parent with a house that seems uncleanable? I feel as if I am and I am being judged by how I keep my house. You guys have some wonderful ideas to try. thank for the advise. I will keep posted how it went.

During the summer we have a "chore board" and the rules are Once a week each kid picks a chore they want to do, then I pick a chore they have to do. At the end of the week the person who complains the most or has to be reminded the most has to do 1 chore from the sibling that complained/reminded the least for 1 day. If nobody complained or was reminded then one day I take on all the chores. This works pretty well because they are reminded "you picked that chore to do". The reason we only do this during the summer is because we dont have any close neighbors so the girls get restless being cooped up at home so I try to change the chores weekly

I do feel your pain, I work midnights & my husband has 2 jobs so when I get home I'm either getting kids off to school, him off to work and then sleeping while everyone is gone then Im up doing my chores, and off to work.

Even doing all this, I cant seem to keep the house clean.

I find that making a chart helps with times and who is doing what, if no time for a chart I often call home before I get off work to remind them this chore needs to be done before I get home, often I know u r tired but tackle a room a day, kitchen and bathroom everyday, whole house has to stop, that means tv, playing, etc... Until chore is done the main thing is it is not going to fix overnight but if as soon as u get home u tacle a few things eventually thwy will get the message, good luck.
