There are a lot of things that need to be considered to come up with the answer. The cost of going to work needs to be factored in against the net pay that is coming home. For some by the time daycare, transportation and work attire is factored in they are basically working for childcare. For some parttime is a good mix financially and emotionally and for some fulltime is a necessity.

I think it depends on the parent and on the family. With my youngest I was stay at home for two years, and felt depressed and inefficient and overwhelmed. I started working again about the time she was 2 1/2 and my attitude all around was much better. After my second, I was lucky enough to work part time at home. I think that was the best of both worlds.
