Give in to the bed, we had to when my youngest was climbing out at 18 months.  We started with a gate across her bedroom door and went to 2 gates, one above another.

I would also go with a toddler bed. I have heard of a handful of cases where a baby gets strangulated in the crib tent. I don't know the details of how it happened but I would be scared to use them. Go with the toddler bed and the baby gate - much safer.

You need to go ahead and get a toddler bed and he may stay in that bed. You just have to accept the crib time is over and be happy he stayed in that long. If you want to keep him in his room (and it is safe), get one of those toddler covers for the doorknob

i would deffinalty go to a toddler bed...if you are worried about stairs or him getting into something try putting a baby gate up in the stairwell or his bedroom door leaving a few of his fav toys in his room.

My 19-month-old son climbed out of his crib 3 nights in a row, so we decided it was "game over." We didn't try the tent, but it sounds like a good solution. We have transitioned our son to a "toddler bed", which is his crib with the side removed. We had to put a door knob cover on his door so he could not leave his room, and after putting him back into his new bed many, many times the first couple of nights, he sleeps there fine.

I have to agree with Renee, if he's figured out how to climb out he's probably not going to tolerate the crib anymore. I gave into my little monkeys well before 24 months, as soon as they could walk they wouldn't stand for the confinement of the crib. I considered a baby gate on the bedroom door to keep the second one from wandering out in the middle of the night and falling down the stairs, but he's doing just fine at 19 months.

Good luck, your either going to have to spend a lot of time reinforcing his good behavior now or opt for a lowered crib rail and a stepping stool. Renee
