My son is trying to establish paternity for his Son

Has any father out there tried to get the help they needed to establish their rights to their children unwed? my Sons ex is still married to another Man and She had my Grandson. We feel like its almost impossible without a Lawyer and just need a little support. We have found someone to help but we have to do all the footwork ourselves. I hope this works so that my Son can be a part of his Sons life and ours.

First of all, congratulations to your son for wanting to be part of his child's life. He may be able to get help at courthouse with filling out forms regarding visitation,paternity and support. There may also be a mediation centre for working out the support arrangments at reduced cost to using a lawyer. But the Mom needs to be willing to go thru the mediation process. Most of all, what a lucky child to have two Dads and a grandma too, all with his best interests at heart.

TELL HIM TO PUT HIMSELF ON CHILD SUPPORT THEY WILL GIVE HIM A DNA TEST THERE

I don't know what state you live in, but in Michigan, if she was married to another man at the time of the birth, he is the legal father and until there is a court Order stating otherwise. I would recommend he save up the money and consult an attorney. It will be easier in the long run to go with an attorney rather than try to navigate the confusing legal system yourselves.

As long as she says no, and he has no custody or visitation's the only way is thru a scheduled court hearing, in most courts you can get without a lawyer, thru family court mediation. You have to do a lot of searching to find who can help you but in the end it's all worth it.

if she won't agree to verify that he's the dad, then you gotta get a paternity test which they can do at any hospital and most diagnostic centers.....if she won't consent to the test tho, you gotta go thru the court system
