I am a full-time working mom trying to get my son to eat more "people" food. I'm trying to get him away from the baby food. He turned 1 on march 19th. He wants nothing to do with regular food. Even if i blend it, he just turns aways. But I give him baby food, and he eats it up!! Don't get me wrong, I'm at least glad he is eating, but so many people have said he should be starting to eat regular food now. On top of that, working full-time and taking care of the home, I don't have time to cook seperate meals for my son and for my husband and I. Does anyone have any good ideas for food for a 1 year-old that doesn't take a lot of preperation? Thanks!!

What kind of baby food are you feeding him? I know its so tough to fix different meals. I work full time (I actually have 3 part time jobs that add up to more than 1 full time one) and I have 1 child. He never really liked baby food. We tried a whole bunch of different kinds. I'm not a fan of packaged foods but have you tried those Gerber graduate meals? What I would suggest is buying soft stuff like refried beans, applesauce, soft white rice, pasta, mashed up avacado, bananas etc. Since he just turned 1 its really going to be impossible to not make him a special meal...after all, he isn't going to have steak and potatoes right?

If he likes a certain type of baby food (like sweet potatoes, bananas, grren peas, etc) try and mirror those foods but use fresh ingredients. My kiddo loved pasta, rice, etc as his first foods. I just made big batches of the stuff 1 time per week and stuck it in the fridge. This way all I had to do was heat it up. Also, try and let him self feed, give him a spoon and let him have at it. I used to take a garbage bag and put it under my sons high chair. When he was done eating I would just brush everything on to the floor, pick up the garbage bag and toss it. Good luck...he will get it just fine.

Try fixing pasta or things he can eat with his hands. It may get a little messy but that may help him get used to eating people food. When you prepare dinner just put some in front of him to see what he will do. There are easy foods like fries and chicken nuggets but you do not want to get into the habit of offering that to your little one. Offer him different foods every chance you get and he will eventually find something that he likes. Good luck to you.
