i have a 11 month 2week old daughter who i love to play with all the time i paint her toenails every once in a while (she stoped putting her toes in her mouth at 6 months).. and everytime i take her out in public someone always comments on it how bad it is for her and how horrible i am for doing it. my doctor said it was ok as long as she doesnt put her feet in her mouth. what do u guys think? does anyone ever gets stuff like this?

Enjoy your time with your daughter and don't let others judgements stop you. I have love painting my daughter's nails since she was real little and even though she thinks she grown (age 12 lol) she still lets me do her nails. Mother-daughter moments are too special let anyone deter you from them. Hope you and your daughter can treasure many special times. Good luck

Michelle, really some people are such idiots. Please do not let anyone make you feel bad for trying to enjoy one of the perks of having a daughter.

You're her mother, NOT other people! They need to butt out. As her mother you make tough decisions about how to raise her every day. People need to relize that we don't need (or want) their advise on every little thing. As parents we do what we think is best for our children and at the end of the day, no one knows our children better than we do!

As longs as she is not putting them in her mouth then I don't see the problem. I was painting my daughter's toes at that age. Your doc says its okay, so go with it. :)

Ok so before I had a baby i would have been the one giving you a hard time. Its not as much about the health, as it is about you letting her grow up to fast, and showing her vanity.

but like i said that is how i felt before I had a child. My daughter idolizes me, and its not fair if i can do things she can't. the more equality you show your children the more trust you build. So if I am putting on nail polish, and my daughter wants to try what I'm doing, well then I'll paint her nails. It will be easier to say "NO" on a really dangerous issue, if i give in on the "no health risk" stuff.

And as a trained nail technician, I can agree with your Doctor, there is no health risk if she isn't putting them in her mouth, although i would be careful of the Removers you use if you use any.

I've painted my daughters toes nail occasionally since she was six months old. She never sucked on her toes though. I think its cute! Go for it :)

I think some of the toxins may enter the body through the nails and skin. I am always so surprised at how nosy and judgmental people can be though.

as long as she's not sucking or chewing on her fingers or toes it's fine. The concern is that they suck/chew on the polish and it gets into there system and isn't good for them. It's a parent's decision.

As the mother of three daughters, I know how you feel. Don't beat yourself up for what other people think. You are the only one who has the right to make decisions for your daughter. There is nothing wrong with painting your little girls toe nails. Especially if doc says it's o.k. I found with my girls that "girlie" bonding time sets the stage for keeping things open, which I know doesn't seem like a big deal now, but later it will. My oldest daughter is 20, my youngest are now 16 (twins) and once a week, we have "make over day". Fun for them, informative for me (nd fun), they still sit down in that couple hours and keep me updated on their lives. And guess what, I painted all of their nails starting at an early age, despite all the unwanted advise. Good luck

There's nothing wrong with it. Like you said, your daughter isn't sucking her toes, so it's not as though she's ingesting it. My daughter is almost 4, and she sucks her left thumb. When I paint her nails, I paint them all except her thumb. Don't mind what other people say. Some people are just so ignorant! Go with your gut and the advice of her doctor.

If she's not sucking on her toes and you even checked with the pediatrician you're fine. Some people rush to judge us as moms without stopping to think before they speak or look at something other than their great ancestors perspective. Follow your gut and when in doubt check with the pediatrician. Nobody else really matters...especially strangers!
