i was putting a little bit of rice cereal in with his formula from about 3 months but didnt like it that much he now 5 1/2 months n eating some different types of baby food started him on them just before 5 months still doeant like rice cereal so every bub different just see how u go

every baby is different! old school doctors, our mothers and grandmothers will say rice cereal is ok early, recent studies will say to wait longer as it can lead to adult overfeeding and obesity. my son is 3 and with my mothers help, he had rice cereal in his bottle from about 6 weeks, he had horrible reflux, so every feed was a constant battle. my daughter is 16 weeks and over the past 4 days i have introduced pureed vegies. she is constantly hungry, unsatisfied and unsettled, i find food is really helping! generally if a bub can hold his head up and seems interested in food, give it a go. make some quiet time, make the cereal runny and see how you go. i would wait til bub does a cereal poo, just to make sure he can handle it! but at 17 weeks your right in the ideal time to start!!!!!! remember bubs milk is number one importance for the first year! I started my children on rice cereal at about 8 weeks and what a life saver! It gives them the feeling that their bellies are full and they slept through the night. I just mixed it runny and fed them with an infant feeder ( got it at K-Mart) and they drank it like a bottle.

Hi Tiffany, my daughter stayed on Milk only till she was 3 months old.. during the fourth month I started introducing rice cereal based after confirming with her pedeatrician. She loved it and when I gave it to her for dinner it realy helped cause she would sleep through the night. So 17 weeks seems fine according to my experience.

THERS NOTHING WRONG WITH U GIVEING UR BABY RICE CEREAL JUST START THEM OFF WITH JUST A TEASPOON SEE HOW UR BABY REACTS WAIT A DAY OR TWO IF EVERY THINGS OK THEN UR GOOD I GIVE IT TOO MY BABY WHEN I NOTICE FORMULA AND BREAST MILK WAS NOT GETING HIM FULL

Hi, I started the rice cereal at 4months with my son, first with rice and later in few months we introduced the oatmeal cereal, and finaly after that whole multigrain cereal.

My dr recommended between 4-6 months. He said to think of food as fun and practice for the first year. That most of his nutrients would still come from the bottle. My son is 6 months and we started cereal about a month ago and his digestive system wasn't quite ready. So two weeks ago we started again and he did much better. And now we are starting to introduce new foods. I only give him one food at a time and we do only that food for at least four days. That way if he has an allergic reaction I know exactly what caused it. He had done fine with what I had given him but when we tried sweet potatos he broke out in a rash and it was comforting to know exactly what caused it and how to stop it. Im not sure exactly when he will start mixing foods but for now our system is working very good and he seems to be having lots of fun trying new things. He still is learning to eat and its a huge mess cuz most of it comes back out. But its great watching him learn this new skill. No matter what age your son starts eating he will have fun and you will love watching him!! Have a great time!!

My son was started on rice Cereal when he was 10 weeks old. He was not sleeping through the night. The pediatrician recommended Rice Ceral because he had been drinking an 8oz bottle every two hours still. He felt that my son was probably not getting full from liquid alone. My duaghter was 4 months old when she started getting cereal. But I do suggest when you start giving him solids you should only start with once a day. My son got Cereal at night, my daughter only got cereal in the morning. Do what you think is best. If he doesn't take it, perhaps it is wrong time of day or maybe he is not ready.

Not to soon if your son is still hungry after drinking milk. Be cautious only add a tablespoon to an eight ounce bottle.

at 3 - 3and half months my kids were on baby cereal, milk just doesn't alway cut it. Do what you thinks is best, your the mum and go with your gut feeling. My mums surgestion to me to start them with a few grains of farex in the bottle, it makes them fuller for longer.

Well my son is 3 weeks and it seemed like his formula isnt enough for him so I called his prediatrician and they said to add a 1/2 teaspoon to each once of milk so i really dont think it would hurt but every baby is different.

We mixed rice cereal with our son's formula since he was about two months old. He was so hungry, wanting to eat every couple hours, that we needed something that would make him feel full. He still eats 4 oz every 4 hours with the rice cereal mixture, but has started sleeping through the night (6 hours on average). We usually put two tbsp into the 4oz formula bottle (8oz bottle first thing in the morning).

If you are breastfeeding and your child is satisfied thee is no rush to introduce him to foods. If he is not satisfied give him some cereal in his bottle with milk, I suggest oatmeal, I guess because I always had good results from giving oatmeal. I have heard of babies being allergic to rice.When you do start introducing foods to him, give it to him one at a time that way you will know if he is allergic to it. My middle son was bothered with food allergies and that is what my Dr, recommended when I had my third child.He told me to breast feed him as long as I could that he was getting everything from the milk that he needed. I breast fed until he was 18 months, had a mouth full of teeth and that was the end it that. Wish you much luck what ever you decide.

my son has had rice cereal added to every bottle since he was 2 months old, due to reflux so i dont think it would hurt anything. even now on his foods if it is somewhat runny I will add cereal to thicken it and he eats it better because of the texture.

My doctor says you can anytime between 4-6 months as long as they can hold their head up. We introduced it to our girls at five months but found that their digestive systems might not have been ready for it because they woke in the middle of the night every time we gave it to them in the evening. (They have been sleeping through the night since three months.) We're going to try again soon to see what happens but as long as your baby is satisfied with breastmilk or formula, there is no rush.

that is the average age i started my kids on it. as long as he can hold his head still then it should be okay. no other foods until he is a little older and stomachs the cereal.

Anywhere from 4-6 months old is a good time to introduce your baby to solid foods...with rice cereal being the best choice as a first solid. Make it really loose...use your breast milk or formula to mix the cereal into almost a thick liquid rather then a solid. Little spoon fulls at a time. Your baby will most likely stick his tongue out like he doesn't like it but remember, he has no earthly idea how to eat so not much will go in. Don't give him too much...only maybe an 1/8 of a cup's worth the first few times and get a feel for how much he likes it, how well he digests it, etc. You'll know right away whether it's working for him...he's in the right age range but now it's baby dependent on whether he is ready or not.

My DS is 19 weeks old, and occasionally i give my DS cereal in his BM (breast milk) ..that is the only type of "solid food" that i give him though. I guess my answer is to wait until you see fit. I mean if your baby is fine with just BM, then keep in giving it him. I wanted to start giving my DS some sort of solids starting at 20 weeks, but if he doesnt care much for it, i will wait until hes 6 months old. I think to try to hold off until at least 20 weeks...JMO though
