I'm taking a poll. How many people want to cook for there children more but don't have the time to do it, so you go to a restaurant or fast food for the alternative?

we were never the kind of family to eat out much anyway. maybe once or twice (occassionally 3 times) a week i'd grab something instead of cook... but we've pretty much stopped going out to eat period. money is tight and even the few fast food lunches add up. so almost every meal is eatin at home or day care. the exception is my husband... he's a truck driver so he has to eat out. there are times i don't feel like cooking so i throw something together. but either way, its healthier AND cheaper! we have saved soooo much money since we stopped spending money on eating out!

Mine isn't born yet... but considering I'm going to be short as heck on money... I'm going to cook once I need to. :)

It's nice to have others in the home to help out with things. It's also a wonderful life lesson.

I am a single Mum and live with my sister and our kids - we always cook for them and i guess its a good thing to take turns in the home. My daughter is 15 yrs old and helps out with the cooking but its a good thing to go out of the house and eat out once in a while!

I like to eat by 6; however, I don't get off work until 5 and have to commute about 45 minutes so a "real" meal doesn't happen except for the weekends if we are lucky. Mostly it's frozen dinners for us.

I am in that same boat! As a full time, working mother, I sometimes don't get home until after 6PM. By that time, it's hard to pull everything out, prep it and cook it, because, before I know it....it's then 7PM! Then there is housework, laundry, homework (for some...I usually read to my son since he isn't in school yet), bills and family time. What I want most of all is family time and if I could, I would love to prep meals every evening and sit around my own dinner table with my family. But, instead I make it work to the best of my ability and try to choose “healthy” fast food options whenever possible. Do I sometimes wish things were different? Of course I do, but I also know that times are different and mothers don’t often have that option to stay home with their children like my mother did. So, we just have to make it work and as long as my son is clothed, clean, fed, loved and taken care of (and he is), I can’t complain…I accept it!

We live in a medium size town and have options but don't go that often. We make the time to cook to save us money and to make sure we are eating healthy (well better than pizza every day!). There are a lot of quick and easy meals we have found, and save those for when we don't have as much time (like spaghetti).

I live in a small town, too, but there is a Burger King and Pizza Hut in the next town. A few small restaurants within a reasonable drive, but not much else. We'll spring for pizza (but usually from the smaller restaurant) or, rarely, burgers on occasion -- once a week or less.

I find that I buy the skillet meals or crock pot meals that have everything in one bag. They have a lot of salt, but I think they are healthier than fast food. Usually, I end up adding frozen veggies to them, as well. I make a lot of dinners that revolve around pasta--ravioli, tortellini or even just regular pasta.

So, yes, we will eat out, but I try to minimize it.

i wish i had that option...hahaaahh. Unfortuneatly i live in a little town that has no takeaway, there are 2 pubs that have bistro's, but i could not afford to take my family in there to eat.....I must admit as much as it is a pain in the butt, cause i do all different hours my husband works days myself at nights, sometimes afternoons, its good to know that what i give them is real and hasnt maybe bypassed dirty fingers or the floor. They know its fresh and can watch me do it. On real busy days i use my crockpot, you really need to invest in one of them cause you load them up in the morning and by the evening you have a nice stew, beef ,chicken or lamb meal...there are some great recipe books out there to help you and honestly save money instead of takeout all the time i bet its very costly for you.........
