At what age did you allow your child to sleep away from home at a relatives? How far was that?

Thanks! I am probably ready for her to stay away but I don't think my husband is. I would also let her stay quicker at my mom's than his and he would too. His parents are about 3 1/2 hours away but that's not the only issue. Their house is dirty, filthy even sometimes. When we visit we sleep at a hotel in town. We live about 5 minutes from my mother. We're not over there like his mother thinks we are. Her daughter lives across the street from them and they are at each other's house several times a day but our lives are not like that but she thinks my daughter gets more time with my mother than she does with her - jealousy issue...my precious one is 3 and we may try it...Thanks for all the posts!

My son stayed over at my MIL for the first time probably around 6 months, they live about 25 minutes away from us but they watch the kids for us a couple times a week when we need daycare. The first time he went "away" was when he was 2 he stayed at my parents house which is 4 hours away from us, and goes there probably once every two months to visit for a few days now that he's 4! My daughter who is 6 months old has not stayed over at anyones house without us yet.

about 3, it was over a cousins house. My husband let them stay over night then told me later. I kinda freaked.

Eloise was about 9 months when I dropped her at my sister's place for a week-end getaway with my hubby (my breasts were soooo full when we got back!).
It really depends on the child and how comfortable she is at her grandparents' house.

Good question, Gena!!
Wendy: we let my girls stay with their grandpa & grandma when my oldest was 2 (and we lived close). The baby spent the night on our date night when she was 1 month old, but that was only because we have two date nights a year, my bday and our anniv and my mom & mother in law love babies and miss the baby stage. It's always tought on me!! We let our oldest two (they are now 6 & 4) go to my parents' house about 4 hours away and spend about ten days or so each summer for the past two years. They've never had a problem; but mom & daddy... we sooooo miss them!! :D

If your child has a normal routine, sleeps through the night & you think he/she will have a easy time & not keep g&g up all night I think the child is ready, But are you? :)
