tips and advice on potty training?! lil seat for the reg toilet or a lil potty?

I never used a potty because I heard too many horror stories of parents having to take the potty everywhere because the child wouldn't use anything else, gross!!

I used a little seat on the toilet. Way before they were ready to be trained I would sit them on the toilet briefly each evening before their bath to "practice". They'd seen me on the toilet (no privacy with kids) so I told them that when they were bigger they would use the toilet too so they had to practice getting on and off and sitting there. They thought that this was fun and when they were ready to be trained could get on and off with ease and maintain their balance sitting there.

Summer time's the best time to train, keep them in areas that are easy to clean up and get the nappy off, they need to clearly see what is happening. Choose a time that you don't have much on so you can relax and not stress about the extra mopping and washing.

I bought a little seat to cover the toilet. When my little girl was able to sit by herself on it I would put her there even if she didnt want to go just for a few minutes. I would tell her then that this is where she is supposed to go when she wants to. My older daughter I had a potty and she never used it, so sometimes they look at what you do to tell them that this is what is accepted and so they follow you.
