Hi, i have a baby aged 4 months, im just wondering when i can start trying him with a bit of porridge or farleys rusks? i have read somewhere that unless they are whingy after each feed they do not need anything other than milk, but when i was younger my mum used to give me things like that at about 3 months, any 1 have any ideas? x

Hi there, my little boy started rice cereal and baby porridge at 4 months and we had no problems - trust your instincts you know your baby best x

Cassie, every kid is different...as for my little girl, she was ready to start eating rice rusks at 4 months and I now give her rice pablem (porridge) mixed with apple sauce (or other fruit sauce) in the AM and just before bed (sleeps longer and more soundly). She eats everything now, I just make sure that it is small enough that if she did inhale it, the food would still slide down her throat...and it always does. Something really good to try is: the graduates or Heinz puffs. (sweet potato rocks) They melt in their mouth very quickly and they are great for car rides. Best wishes. Marie VH

I think the recommendation (UK) is from 6 months, but that can depend on what health visitor advises etc and how big baby is.... with my first son I started him on baby porridge around the 4 half / 5 month mark, just the odd teaspoon in the middle of the day or in the evening. He was always hungry and milk just wasn't doing the trick!

Hope that helps.
