Years ago, I learned you could work up to 8 hours of OT for nothing (but it paid the taxes on your regular wage). Once you cross that 8 hour threshold, then you start seeing the extra money yourself. Once you cross the 20 - 25 hour of OT mark you go back to it paying your taxes on the regular wage.

I live in IL and the taxes here are KILLER. Soon it feels like every household will have at least one person with two jobs. it's getting bad. I worked overtime just to see how my check would look....I busted my ass for only a $27 difference?!? Def not worth it.

I guess it depends on who you voted for.

More Taxes equals less Freedom. I don't get it personally. I am in California and we have the highest sales tax raise of any state! My freind posted on Face book, "8.5% I can live with that." Are you kidding me???
But America voted for it, so I'd better not hear them complaining. All of you who chose the Government over the people (private sector) to control your life. All I can say, be careful what you wish for. There is nothing FREE about FREEDOM

I am not middle class by far. I am a single mom too. I am also trying to go to school. Its going to hurt me too as I just make it paycheck to paycheck. I am in school right now to try to get a better job.

Technically, it was not a tax increase--we are simply going back to paying the rate we were paying 2 years ago.
That said, I think there were better ways to handle it. The tax break was passed to get the middle class to spend more and boost the economy--they were NOT encouraged to save this money. So they spent it, and they got used to a higher level of income, and now they are going to have to go back to the way they were spending 2 years ago, which means the economy is likely to fall back to that point as well.
I feel that given the current state of our economy, that tax break should have been extended while the estate, capital gains, and inheritance tax breaks were allowed to expire. Those taxes do not effect the economy in the way that middle class spending does--keeping them lower only helps the rich.

Its for Social Security. And no one likes tax increases. They do take money we all could use away. But they are not raising the taxes on each pay check to make it higher and higher. Its a 2 percent hike and paychecks are going to be smaller this year. They can not add 2 percent to every single paycheck or they would break us.
