I recently started working. I work the late shift. I work from 3p to 11:30p with a half hour for lunch. I only get to see my kids to get them ready for school. They younger 2 have to be at school by 8 the older one has to be at school by 8:45. I was wondering how many of you work a later shift? How do you do it? Any tips for sleep? How do you deal with missing the evenings with your kids?

I don't work nights but my husband does. He gets my son on the bus in the morning and naps when my 19 month old daughter naps. By the way he doesn't get home till 3 in the morning so he runs on empty a lot. I work retail so my schedule is all over the place, holiday season is fast approaching and I'll be required to work 6 day work weeks. As a mom I wish I could spend more time with my kids but I try to make sure what time we do have together is quality time. So on your weekends off you plan on spending quality family time together, games, activities, events. I also think the idea of volunteering in the classroom is a great one, you'll be involved with your kids and helping out the school.

I used to work nights many years ago. I generally can do ok on sleeping from around 12 12:30, till 6. I would try to get up a little bit earlier than needed to spend a bit more time with them in the morning. I also tried to volunteer at school on some mornings, some days I did need to catch up on sleep though. Genreally speaking though, I now get home from work at about 5:30, and my son is in bed by 8:30, so I really do not spend that much time with him in the evening, most of that time is spent cooking and doing homework. you can make the most of your morning time, try to eat breakfast together, talk about the upcoming day, etc.Im not sure if you drive them to school or they take the bus, but time spent in cars is great sometimes, I have had some of the best conversations with my kids while driving. Its not really how many hrs, you spend, but what you do with that time that matters. Hope this helped a bit
